Nova Gradiška combines a late Baroque town centre with archaeological themes, sports facilities and regional products. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to consider what you want to focus your stay on: local history, physical activity or an insight into traditional products.

City history in the old town centre and museum

The late Baroque old town centre can be explored on foot. Notable buildings include the Church of St Teresa of Ávila, the former courthouse and prison building Glavna straža, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The latter features murals by Croatian painter Celestin Medović. The walk focuses on buildings in the urban landscape; the town museum offers a different perspective.

The Gradski muzej Nova Gradiška has archaeological, cultural-historical, ethnological and gallery collections relating to Nova Gradiška and western Slavonia. The museum building also has its own historical significance: it is a Baroque-classical building from the 18th and 19th centuries and is recognised as a cultural monument. A much earlier historical layer is represented by the Neolithic figurine “Venera sa Slavče”. It was found on Slavča Hill and dated to the fifth millennium BC. The timeline therefore spans from an early archaeological find to the later architectural history of the museum building.

Sports, cycling and exploring the town

The Sportski centar Ivo Petranović has a children’s playground, a street basketball court, a sand court for handball and football, and a sand volleyball court. There is also a skatepark and sanitary facilities with showers. The facilities thus include a variety of play and sports areas. As access and individual facilities may change, check the latest information before visiting.

The Davor–Strmac cycling route is listed as 120 kilometres in both directions, making it a ride that requires its own planning. Check route conditions and signage before setting out. For exploring the town, there is also a route with 21 points as part of the “Započni avanturu – istraži Novu Gradišku” project. Before your trip, check whether the route and signage will be available during your visit.

Tennis competitions for younger and older participants are held at the Sportski centar San Siro on Slavča. The Nova Gradiška Tennis Club also runs a tennis school there for all age groups. As competition dates and access may change, and the tennis school’s current programme should be checked locally, obtain this information before your visit.

Getting there and regional products

Nova Gradiška is located at a junction of major international road and rail connections, including the European corridors Vc and X. The town has good road and rail connections within Croatia and Europe. For your arrival or onward journey, check the specific connections and timetables for your travel dates, as schedules and services may change.

Slavonski dućan has a tasting room for homemade traditional products. If this insight into regional products fits your itinerary, enquire in advance about the tasting room’s availability and the current selection.
