The Municipality of Davor combines its location on the Sava with sacred art and cultural traditions. When planning your trip, you can consider the parish church and local customs separately from the riverbank landscape and its connections to the river. Davor and Orubica are highlighted in the western part of Brod-Posavina. In the wider travel destination of Brod-Posavina, the Sava is Croatia’s largest river and forms a natural border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

River landscapes and activities

The Municipality of Davor lies on the Sava. In Davor, a well-maintained promenade runs along the river; the municipality is also associated with boating and river navigation. The Sava Cycle Route follows the left bank through Orubica and Davor. The Sava and its immediate surroundings are considered the area’s greatest landscape asset.

Bokovi lies outside the built-up area of Davor and is a lowland area on the left bank of the Sava. The area is suitable for excursions, recreation, camping and weekend stays. This helps distinguish the different options: the cycle route follows a specific course through two named places, while Bokovi can be considered as a separate landscape for recreation and excursions.

Parish church and sacred art

The parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen, and Saint George was built in 1865. After extensions and renovations, it acquired its final form in 2005. The main altar features a bronze relief of Mary Queen. The woodwork was created jointly by artist Marija Franca Rizvić from Orubica and carpenter Vinko Vitolić. A wooden relief beneath the altar depicts everyday life in Davor, including fieldwork and fishing.

The other artworks also combine different themes and materials: the Stations of the Cross were created in bronze by artist Jure Žaja in 1999. The organs are attributed to Vjencesalav Holub from Požega and date to 1921. The stained-glass windows depict Saint George fighting the dragon and the Holy Family. Alongside religious themes, scenes of everyday life in Davor, including fieldwork and fishing, are also shown.

Kolo traditions and events

Davor’s traditional Christmas Kolo has protected cultural heritage status. As a centuries-old cultural practice, it helped preserve the community’s collective identity. In Orubica, Kolo na dva štuka is protected as intangible cultural heritage of Croatia. The dance is performed by 16 girls and 16 boys. A folk festival under the same name takes place in Orubica at the end of August.

Ribarske večeri takes place in August and recalls the Posavina community’s traditions in Davor. Tambura music is part of the event. The 2025 edition featured freshly prepared fish in various styles, traditional Slavonian specialities, homemade products and regional delicacies. If attending an event is central to your trip, check the current programme in advance.

Choose accommodation based on the purpose of your trip

When searching for holiday apartments, it helps to decide on your focus first. Davor is the specific location to choose if the parish church, promenade or Ribarske večeri are your main interests. Orubica is the venue for Kolo na dva štuka.
