A preserved, well-maintained Captain’s House dating from 1828 adds a distinctive historical touch to the Municipality of Brodski Stupnik. The municipality lies below the foothills of the Dilj Mountains and includes the settlements of Brodski Stupnik, Krajačići, Lovčić and Stari Slatinik. Its history unfolds across several places and different periods, from sacred buildings to archaeological remains.
Cultural heritage across several settlements
The Church of St. Martin in Lovčić was built in 1167 and renovated in 1756. The former school there was also converted into the Sv. Martin Interpretation Centre; the conversion was completed in November 2024. The centre aims to introduce visitors to the place’s past and traditions, as well as the significance of Saint Martin. Check current access arrangements before planning a visit.
In Stari Slatinik, the present-day Church of St. Joseph was built in 1894. The Way of the Cross, a sacred landmark, is also located in the Obrijež forest. Villa Štrba in Stupničko brdo adds a different architectural touch: it was built around 1930, with Romantic and Hungarian Secessionist elements. The periods can be compared: the construction year and later renovation of the Church of St. Martin are recorded, while the villa’s construction date is approximate.
Gradište in Mrsunjski lug, south of Brodski Stupnik, offers another historical dimension. The remains of this fortified settlement date from the 10th to the 18th century. Together with the churches and buildings, they provide different points of reference for placing the municipality’s history in context.
Landscape and orientation
Stari Slatinik has a clear north–south contrast: to the north, wooded hills of the Dilj Mountains border the settlement. To the south lie the flat Posavina region, fertile fields, floodplain meadows and forests. Thus, wooded heights and open, flat landscapes sit side by side within the same description of the area.
For orientation, the municipality is located on the Zagreb–Vinkovci main railway line. Its tourist infrastructure also includes the “4 Kapelice” cycle route. These two details offer different points of reference for planning a trip: the railway line helps with geographical orientation, while the named cycle route is relevant to exploring cycling in the municipality.
Slavonian cuisine and wine
Restaurant Stupnički Dvori serves traditional Slavonian cuisine and wines from the Galić winery. Wine is also a feature of the road above Brodski Stupnik: winemakers showcase their wines in the wine cellars there and offer them for sale. If your plans depend on a particular restaurant or cellar offering, check shortly before your visit, as offerings can change.
The singers’ gathering “Drum drumila” by the PS Drumarice singing group is scheduled to take place in Brodski Stupnik on 17 October 2026. The event date complements the area’s enduring cultural and landscape attractions with a specific day to visit.
