The Museo Regional de San Ramón has been housed in a neoclassical building since 1987. The building was constructed in 1878. Since 1982, under Legislative Decree 13411-C, it has been recognized as a national architectural, cultural and historical heritage site of Costa Rica. In San Ramón, museum use, architecture and a special heritage designation come together.

Culture and Traditions in San Ramón

Local traditions also offer insight into the canton’s cultural character. The “Melcochas de María” tradition is associated with San Ramón’s central district. The religious and cultural activities of the Fiestas Patronales include the “Desfile de Boyeros” and the “Entrada de las Imágenes de los Santos.” If you would like to experience these celebrations, check the dates before your trip.

Water Activities and Ecological Agriculture

In the El Castillo-Arenal sector of San Ramón, Water Bike Tours offers tours and water bike rentals. The options also include kayaks, paddle activities and boat tours on Lake Arenal. The distinction between activity types is clear: you can experience water bikes on a tour or rent one; other water activities are also available.

Finca Educativa Don Juan in Jauuri de San Ramón focuses on ecological agriculture. Visitors can take guided tours of the organic fields, attend workshops on ecological agriculture and sample organic products. The focus is therefore both on learning about cultivation and exploring agricultural methods and products.

Forest, Outdoor Activities and Encounters with Nature

The Ruta Bosque Nuboso La Paz runs through the Piedades Norte district, particularly in the communities of La Paz and Bajo La Paz. In San Ramón’s cloud forest, Canopy San Luis offers canopy tours, hanging bridges and birdwatching. El Bosque de Tío Victor is a family-run ecotourism business offering hikes through tropical rainforest. These options differ in their focus: birdwatching and hanging bridges, rainforest hikes, or a route through the communities mentioned.

Ranchito Mío offers ATV tours through landscapes featuring nature, rivers and mountain views. For a different kind of break, El Valle Mineral Springs offers relaxation in thermal waters and trails through lush forest. San Ramón thus offers motorized tours, forest trails and thermal waters as distinct experience themes.

Bee Projects and Special Places

Miel Colibrí in San Francisco de Piedades Sur invites visitors to learn about the project and discover more about beekeeping. Euglossin in Valle Azul de San Ramón focuses on the propagation, protection and conservation of Costa Rica’s native bees, including Meliponas and Euglossas. These two bee-related attractions have different emphases: Miel Colibrí introduces visitors to the project and beekeeping, while Euglossin focuses on native bee species and their protection.

In Piedades Sur, Capilla Ámbar offers intimate celebrations in a setting with an active butterfly garden. It also offers guided experiences for families, school groups and tourists. Alongside the nature and agriculture themes, this place highlights another facet of the experiences San Ramón has to offer.
