Two waterfalls, each 48 meters high, define Parque Recreativo Los Chorros. Their water comes from the Río Prendas and Quebrada Zamora. The park is in the district of Tacares, four kilometers north of the district center; it also straddles a cantonal boundary: one part lies in Poás, the other in Grecia. The combination of striking natural features and shared administration offers a concrete starting point for exploring this region.

Waterfalls and Forest Conservation

The Reserva Forestal Grecia offers another perspective on nature. It was established on January 25, 1974, under Law No. 5463, covering 2,611 hectares. Its purpose is to protect the area where the water sources that supply Grecia and other cantons in the region originate. This gives forest conservation a concrete regional significance: these sources support a water supply that extends beyond the individual protected area. Visitors interested in nature will find not only waterfalls here, but also the question of the role played by protecting spring areas.

Forest Trails in the Bosque del Niño Sector

In the Bosque del Niño sector, the Reserva Forestal Grecia offers three trails that can be compared by length. At 600 meters, Carboneras is the shortest; Los Pinos is 800 meters long, and the Panorámico is 1,800 meters. The Panorámico also has irregular terrain. This provides both trail length and a specific detail about the terrain to help you choose, without describing all three trails in the same way.

The sector is open Monday through Sunday, including public holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Check the opening hours before you travel. This lets you plan your visit to the forest sector around the stated hours, while the three trail lengths offer a separate basis for comparison when choosing a route.

Puente de Piedra: A Natural Bridge with a History

Puente de Piedra offers a different perspective: it is a natural bridge over the Río Poró in the canton of Grecia. The formation has features of a grotto in solid rock and has been adapted for the passage of ox carts since the 19th century. Its natural form and historical use are part of the same local story: the bridge is not just a crossing over the river, but also evidence of how it was adapted for cart traffic.

Today, Puente de Piedra is part of a regional road that connects, among other places, the communities of Rincón de Salas and Puente Piedra. Its present role in the road network can thus be clearly distinguished from its historic use by ox carts.

Art Workshops and Snake Exhibitions

Grecia also has its own offerings for those interested in culture. The Centro de la Cultura de Grecia offers specialized art workshops; schedules vary depending on the activity. If you want to plan for a particular workshop, check the dates for that specific offering. Mundo de las Serpientes in Grecia holds exhibitions about snakes. The two venues have different focuses: art workshops at one, exhibitions about snakes at the other.

You can explore Grecia through a range of subjects, depending on your interests: waterfalls and forest conservation, trails of different lengths, a natural bridge with a history of use, or offerings related to art and snakes. These specific features can help you find your way, without prescribing a set itinerary for your visit.
