Maní combines an aircraft monument and Llanero culture with natural attractions in the town and nearby. When looking for a hotel in Maní, it therefore helps to consider what you want your stay to focus on: historical and cultural themes, or flora and fauna. The individual places also differ considerably in location and the type of experience they offer.

Aircraft Monument and Llanero Culture

The Monumento al Avión is a 1948 Lockheed 133 belonging to the Air Force. During the period of violence, the conservative army used the aircraft to attack opponents on the ground. At the same time, the monument recalls the long-standing aviation activity at this location. Two aspects therefore come together here: the aircraft’s historical use and the aviation activity that continued over a longer period in Maní. Visitors interested in local history will find a concrete historical point of reference here.

On the banks of the Río Cusiana is the Malecón, a sculpture-themed park. Its sculptures depict a Llanera woman and a canoeist, as well as a cachicamo, a morrocoy tortoise, an iguana, a deer, a corocora, and a large chigüiro. The ensemble brings together human figures and several depictions of animals, offering a different focus from the single aircraft monument.

The Casa Museo del Hombre Llanero is devoted to the lives, art, and customs of the Llaneros. In contrast to the Malecón, whose sculptures depict individual figures and animals, the museum focuses on a more comprehensive way of life. For a culturally oriented choice, these are two distinct themes: a sculpture ensemble on the riverbank and the Llaneros’ way of life.

Nature in Maní and Nearby

The Reserva Natural Tierra de Paz is located in the urban area of Maní. It has walking trails and a great diversity of flora and fauna. Here, trails and biodiversity go hand in hand; its urban location also sets the reserve apart from the lagoons nearby.

The Laguna Bocachico, in the Vereda Gaviotas, is a place to observe regional flora and fauna. The Laguna Tinije offers a different focus: it is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including endangered species for which the lagoon is a natural habitat. It is also suitable for water sports and camping on its shores. Thus, Bocachico focuses on observing regional nature, while Tinije emphasizes habitat and recreational activities.

Historical Site Nearby

The Ruinas de Santa Helena add a historical site in the surrounding area to Maní’s range of attractions. They are considered the first settlement center of the 17th century and a historical heritage site of the municipality of Maní. The ruins are in the Vereda Santa Helena de Cúsiva, 63 kilometers from the municipal seat. Their location clearly sets them apart from places in the urban area of Maní and makes them a distinct historical focus when planning your visit.
