Rengo’s main historical and cultural attractions are concentrated in the area between the railway station, Avenida Bisquertt, and Plaza de Armas. Several perspectives on the city come together here: the location of the Basílica de Santa Ana, the history of a former commercial and social hub, and today’s cultural offerings. The Oficina de Información Turística de Rengo is also located in Plaza de Armas.

The Plaza, Basilica, and City History

The Basílica de Santa Ana de Rengo stands opposite Plaza de Armas, on O’Higgins Street between Errázuriz and Bisquertt. It was designed by French architect Eugenio Joannon Croizer. During the presidency of Chilean president José Manuel Balmaceda, the Chilean government commissioned Joannon Croizer to work on major construction projects in the country. The basilica can therefore be understood not only in terms of its precise location, but also through its architect and the political context of construction at the time.

Another historical trace leads to Avenida Bisquertt. Until 1856, it was called Paseo Lautaro; in the 1950s and 1960s, it was Rengo’s most important commercial and social center. This former role adds to today’s perspective on the area between the avenue, the plaza, and the railway station: these landmarks represent not only individual attractions, but also different chapters in the city’s history.

Theater and Cultural Program

The Teatro Municipal de Rengo is the city’s main cultural institution. Music, theater, and ballet performances are held there regularly throughout the year; the theater also hosts exhibitions of paintings and photographs. If you want to include cultural events in your trip planning, you’ll find a wide range of program types here: performing arts and exhibitions are equally part of what is on offer. For details of a specific performance, consult the current schedule.

Fiesta de la Vendimia: Wine, Gastronomy, and Folklore

The Fiesta de la Vendimia in Rengo has been held on the last weekend of March since 2002; it was canceled in 2010 following the earthquake that year. The festival includes performances by local and national artists. Wineries from the surrounding area present their wines, alongside tastings of traditional cuisine, handicrafts, and folklore. The Fiesta brings together several themes that may appeal to visitors: music and culture, as well as wine and regional traditions. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the date of the relevant edition.

Wine Heritage on Avenida Bisquertt

Viña Misiones de Rengo is located on Avenida Bisquertt, on the former site of Catholic missions established in the area around 1730. The grounds preserve an old apostolic school, the remains of a monastery, and an old mansion. These historical connections give the site a cultural dimension of its own, alongside its association with wine. You can consider the history of the grounds as a separate theme when planning your visit; this does not imply access to the preserved buildings.
