Explore the Hauts-Bassins region through its cultural and natural sites, following several thematic strands. Bobo Dioulasso brings together mosques, Les silures sacrés de Dafra and museums; elsewhere, place names lead to pilgrimage sites, community cultural sites, caves, waterways and distinctive landforms. If you plan your trip around your interests, you can first distinguish between cultural places and natural features, then focus on individual communes.

Cultural sites and community places

In Bobo Dioulasso, the Mosquée de Dioulassoba and Les silures sacrés de Dafra are listed as tourist sites. Also in Bobo-Dioulasso are the Musée communal Sogossira Sanou and the Musée de la musique d'hier et d'aujourd'hui; both are museums in the region. Their names highlight different themes: alongside the mosque and the sacredly named Silures are a municipal museum and a museum whose title evokes music from yesterday and today. This makes it possible to distinguish between different cultural themes in the city without treating the sites as a single point of interest.

Cultural sites with different associations can also be found outside Bobo Dioulasso. La vieille Mosquée de Faramana is in Faramana, the Cathédrale de Boni in Boni, and the Mausolée Tiéfo Amoro in Péni. The pilgrimage site “Dopre 3” is in Mahon. In Kourouma, both the Bosquet Sacré de Kourouma and the palais royal de Kourouma are listed as cultural sites; the palais royal is private. The marigot sacré de Kourion is a community cultural site classified as both cultural and natural.

Community-oriented cultural places can also be found in Pala, Koreba and Morolaba: the village artisanal de Pala, the village perché de Koréba and the Quartier des potières de Morolaba. In Bekuy, Les Hauts Fourneaux d Bekuy are listed among the tourist sites, while the gravures rupestres de Wempéa in Toussiana offer another cultural focus. The names refer to different kinds of places—from community villages and neighborhoods to rock engravings and blast furnaces.

Water, hills and caves

Water sites form a distinct strand of regional discoveries. The Barrage de Samadéni is located in Bama, and the Source mystérieuse d’eau de Tijo in Fo. The waterfalls include the chutes d’eau de Dinkoua in K. Sambla and the Chutes d’eau de Banfoulaguè in Kourinion. Two other sites are named Mare aux hippopotames: the Mare aux hippopotames de Bala is associated with Satiri, while the Mare aux hippopotames de Banzon is in Banzon. Their location details help distinguish between these similarly named bodies of water.

Those more interested in landforms will find names for hills and mountains as well as forests and caves. Colline Wango Kourou is in K. Vigué, and Mont Kagnangnè in Koloko. The forêt classée de Dindéresso is in Dinderosso; another, the forêt classée de la Mou, is in Mou. The caves are likewise spread across several communes: Les Grottes aux vestiges are in Koundougou, Les grottes de Kuini in Djigouèra, Les Grottes de Dohoun in Houndé, and Les Grottes de Gombledougou in Koumbia. This lets you choose by landscape theme without treating hills, forests, waterfalls and caves as one uniform nature experience.

Before planning specific visits, it is advisable to check accessibility in each case. The palais royal de Kourouma is classified as a private cultural site.
