Church history, theatre and culinary traditions offer a variety of ways to enjoy a stay in Kozarevets. The history of the church and the local amateur theatre can be traced through specific dates, while recurring festivals and cooking traditions provide different themes for planning a trip.

Church, School and Theatre History

The Orthodox Church of St Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska was built in 1850 and rebuilt later the same year following the 1913 earthquake. 14 October is the feast day of the church of the same name. The village's first cell school was established in 1855. This means that five years separate the church's construction and the school's founding; the rebuilding marks another milestone in the history of the church building.

Amateur theatre began in Kozarevets in 1897 with a performance of Kara Tanas. The Parashkev Parashkevov Theatre Group at the community centre has won laureate status at republican amateur theatre festivals. The Avliga folklore group has also received an award: it was awarded the laureate title at the 13th National Petropavlovski Festival. Together with the church's history, these theatre and folklore traditions give the village several cultural facets.

Festivals with Different Rhythms

The Petkovden festival takes place every year. It includes a kurban meal and a festival programme attended by residents and visitors. Tulum is celebrated in Kozarevets every four years. The tradition is also known as a bachelors' wedding, a Bartholomew's wedding or a men's wedding. The two events have different schedules: Petkovden returns every year, while Tulum follows a four-year cycle. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check the specific date before booking.

Exhibition and Culinary Traditions

The renovated Zemedelets-1899 building houses an information centre, a conference room with 45 seats and an exhibition hall. Traditional costumes and objects from regional daily life are displayed there. Alongside the festivals and theatre history, exhibits from everyday life in the region offer another cultural theme to explore.

The Club for Traditional Culinary Arts represents the village at regional and national culinary festivals. There is also the annual Chicken Soup Day competition, where chicken soup is cooked in public. The two activities differ in form: the club represents Kozarevets at festivals, while the competition is held locally every year. The culinary connection therefore ranges from appearances at events beyond the region to a recurring cooking competition in the village.

Road Access and Historic Railway Connection

Kozarevets is located near the first-class I-4 road (E772) between Sofia and Varna and has very good road connections to surrounding settlements. This location is a practical reference point when planning your journey. The history of the railway station is also part of the village's transport history: it opened as a stopping point in 1901 and became a station in 1910. Historically, it served the residents of Kozarevets, Dobri dyal, Pisarevo and Rodina. Check current services separately if you plan to travel by train today.

If you want a festival to be the focus of your trip, check its date; for a trip without a specific event in mind, church history, theatre and cuisine can help shape your choice of destination. Choose accommodation to suit your travel plans, and take the road connections into account if they are important for your journey.
