Strelcha offers different ways to experience nature and culture: the Thracian cult complex of the Heroon “Zhaba Mogila” combines a tomb-mausoleum and a sanctuary-temple, while the Historical Museum brings together archaeology, history and art. Other attractions include the mineral baths in the city’s central park, protected rock formations and trekking routes in the Sŭshtinska Sredna Gora. You can therefore plan your trip around different themes—archaeological history, mineral water or nature—without conflating these very different experiences.

Thracian Heritage and the Museum

The Heroon “Zhaba Mogila” consists of a tomb-mausoleum and a sanctuary-temple. The tomb-mausoleum dates from the 5th–4th century BC and was excavated in 1976. The monument’s date and the year it was excavated refer to different points in its history. The site can thus be understood both in terms of its function as a cult complex and its archaeological period.

The Historical Museum is in the center of Strelcha. Its exhibits are divided into the departments of Archaeology, Bulgarian Lands in the 15th–19th Centuries, and Art. The archaeology exhibition covers the period from prehistory to the Middle Ages. The museum’s structure therefore caters to several distinct interests: you can focus on the long archaeological time span, or turn your attention to the history of the Bulgarian lands and to art. Another cultural point of interest is the Nedeleva House: its exhibition hall hosts various events and temporary exhibitions organized by the museum.

For practical planning, the location of the Heroon is a separate consideration from its historical context: “Zhaba Mogila” is 4 km from the city center. The route runs along a paved road and then continues for 300 m on an unpaved stretch. Because it is close to a railway line, this section cannot be traveled by motor vehicle; there is no public transport to the site. Paid guided tours are listed as available on request from the Strelcha Historical Museum. Confirm that the site can be visited before you travel.

Mineral Baths and Different Temperature Readings

The Strelcha mineral baths are in the city’s central park and have a 36 m² indoor pool and an area with 14 tubs. The water is slightly mineralized, contains sulfate-hydrocarbonate sodium and fluoride, has a mineral content of 324 mg/l, and a temperature of +56°C. A seasonal operating notice dated June 11, 2026, states that all pools and showers are supplied with 100 percent mineral water at 31–33°C. These figures refer to different measurements: +56°C describes the water temperature, while the notice gives 31–33°C for pools and showers. Seasonal conditions may change. Check the facility’s current status and applicable conditions before your visit.

Nature and Festival Culture

Strelcha also has a natural side beyond its museum and mineral baths. The rock formations of Strelcha are protected under Bulgaria’s Nature Protection Act. The city is also a starting point for trekking routes in the Sŭshtinska Sredna Gora. These two attractions have different emphases: the rock formations represent protected nature, while the trekking routes offer a chance to explore the mountain region on foot.

A municipal post dated June 1, 2026, presents the Strelcha Festival of Tourism and Essential Cultures as the successor to the Rose Festival. It reports that, for the preceding five years, a traditional Avenue of Fragrances and Avenue of Crafts had been held in Druzhba Square. The Saturday program included the traditional rose-picking ritual and a visit to a rose distillery. The post also reports that, since the first festival, the municipality has held a local tourism fair showcasing balneotherapy tourism and attractive destinations for excursions. Check current event dates if you would like to include this festival culture in your travel plans.
