Bratsigovo offers a range of attractions for a trip where nature, historical traces and culture each play a part. In the protected locality of Tamra, landscapes sit alongside Roman roads, bridges and fortress remains. Eight of the municipality’s eleven Ecopaths start in Bratsigovo; in the town, two house exhibitions add to its cultural appeal. When planning, the main considerations are the maintenance and marking of the trails, and the fact that the exhibitions have no fixed opening hours.

Tamra: Landscape and Historical Traces

Tamra is a protected locality within the municipality of Bratsigovo. Its features include gorges, rock formations and meadows surrounded by forest. There are also ancient Roman roads and bridges, as well as remains of several Roman fortresses and the ancient fortress of Tamra. These different features bring landscape and history together without one replacing the other: landforms and meadows sit alongside historic routes, bridges and fortification remains. It is also worth distinguishing between the historical traces. Roads and bridges draw attention to former connections and structures; the fortress remains provide the archaeological focus. Tamra can therefore be explored from both a landscape and a historical perspective. Within the historical theme, roads and bridges can also be considered separately from the traces of fortifications.

Ecopaths and Outdoor Activities

Eight of the municipality’s eleven Ecopaths start in Bratsigovo. They are considered suitable for ecotourism, cycling and educational tourism, provided that the trails are cleaned regularly and their markings renewed. If you include one of these trails in your plans, check its condition and signage on site; both are conditions for its suitability. The terrain between Bratsigovo and Zhrebichko is considered suitable for hiking, cycling trips and camping. The two outdoor highlights can be distinguished by the activities they suit: ecotourism, cycling and educational tourism are the focus of the Ecopaths, while the terrain between the two places is suitable for hiking and camping. You can first consider which of these activities you want to shape your stay, and take the specific maintenance and marking requirements into account when planning an Ecopath.

Ethnography and Architectural History

The Kanevi House contains an ethnographic exhibition; the Popovi House presents an exhibition on the city’s architectural and building school from the Bulgarian National Revival period. This gives you a choice of two distinct cultural themes: ethnography at the Kanevi House and architectural history at the Popovi House. If you are particularly interested in architecture, the Popovi House is the place to visit; if you are interested in ethnography, choose the Kanevi House. The exhibitions have no fixed opening hours. Check visiting times in advance before making a visit a fixed part of your itinerary.
