The Lagoa da Confusão lake is considered the municipality’s main attraction and is suitable for ecotourism. It has a diameter of 4.5 kilometres and a maximum depth of 3 metres. The time of year can also shape the character of a visit: July is beach season, and many tourists visit the town for its natural beauty, including the lakeshore. Local festival traditions and excursion destinations complement the lake as a guide for planning your trip.

Lakeshore and Natural Attractions

Those interested in landscapes and nature will find a variety of destinations nearby. Lago dos Pássaros is 45 kilometres from the town and is an excursion destination during the dry season. It is inaccessible during the rainy season; if planning a visit during the dry season, it is advisable to check local conditions in advance. Birds found in the area around the lake include jabirus, great egrets, cormorants, southern lapwings, hawks, vultures and roseate spoonbills.

Campo das Caraibeiras, about 20 kilometres from the town, offers a different kind of landscape. Medium-sized trees with straight trunks grow there to a height of about 15 metres. Their yellow blossoms stand out against the blue sky and open grassland. The contrast with Lago dos Pássaros lies in the natural features described: birds characterise that location, while tree forms, blossoms and open terrain define this one.

There is also an access point to Ilha do Bananal within the municipality of Lagoa da Confusão. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific access conditions in advance. This adds to the picture of the region without implying a particular excursion or a connection to the other natural attractions mentioned.

Festivals Throughout the Year

Local festival traditions take place in different months. Folia de Reis is celebrated in January, with its feast day on 6 January. The associated procession passes through several settlements in the municipality. In May, Baile do Arroz is celebrated at the end of the rice harvest. June brings the June festivals, including quadrille festivals; the events are open to the public.

July also offers a variety of events. Cavalgada Lorory/Lagoa da Confusão is a traditional horse-riding festival held on the first weekend in July. A group on horseback represents the municipality, while several riders’ committees provide entertainment. On the second Sunday in July, Dia Municipal da Melancia is held as a competition: the winner is whoever eats the largest quantity of watermelon. Beach season also falls in the same month, when many tourists come for the town’s natural beauty and lakeshore. In July, festival events and the seasonal appeal of the lakeshore go hand in hand.

Two religious celebrations are part of local traditions in August. Festejo de Nossa Senhora da Abadia includes programmes organised by the Catholic Church and ends on 15 August, the official feast day of the patron saint. Festa de São Raimundo Nonato takes place on 31 August with prayers and a celebration, and is also known as Festa do Punduxa. Hetohoki and Aruanã are among the municipality’s prominent Indigenous cultural festivals.

On 2 November, a visit to Gruta Casa de Pedra is associated with a local tradition: prayers are said for the deceased, and religious events are held. If you would like to experience this occasion yourself, check access in advance. Another event is Expolagoa, an agricultural fair in Lagoa da Confusão. Its date follows the changing calendar of the local agricultural association; check the specific date if you would like to plan your trip around the fair.

Accommodation and Planning

On the lakeshore is Lagoa da Ilha Praia Clube, a tourist complex with chalets, apartments, boats, floating facilities and other nautical equipment. If you are considering the complex for an overnight stay or a visit to the lake, check locally in advance whether it is currently operating and what services are available. This lets you confirm the current status of the offering before making your accommodation plans around it.

The months mentioned offer different highlights when choosing when to travel: May focuses on the end of the rice harvest, June on the public June festivals, July brings beach season and events, and Catholic celebrations shape the festival calendar in August. Check specific event dates before travelling.
