The Caminho do Mosteiro ends in Torrinha at the Mosteiro do Paraíso. A different note is struck by the centrally located, restored Estação Ferroviária. Together, these places show different sides of Torrinha: its pilgrimage tradition, urban history, and creative projects. When planning a trip, it is worth distinguishing between the different routes and timeframes of the pilgrim paths.

Pilgrim Routes with Different Timeframes

The 134-kilometer Caminho do Mosteiro begins in Piracicaba, passes through Charqueada, Ipeúna, Itirapina, and Brotas, and ends in Torrinha at the Mosteiro do Paraíso. Different timeframes are specified depending on the mode of travel: pilgrims complete the route on foot in five to seven days, cyclists in two to four days, and riders in four to five days with a support vehicle. These figures make clear that there is no single standard duration for this route.

Another pilgrim route begins in Potunduva and passes through the municipalities of Jaú, Mineiros do Tietê, Dois Córregos, and Brotas before reaching the Mosteiro do Paraíso in Torrinha. The first group consisted of 30 riders and was expected to cover the 112 kilometers in four days. This four-day timeframe referred to the group’s planned itinerary. It should therefore be considered differently from the time ranges specified by mode of travel for the Caminho do Mosteiro.

Comparing the routes means considering more than just the kilometers: the route, mode of travel, and status of the timeframe also differ. This helps anyone planning a pilgrimage tailor their schedule to the specific route, rather than treating the figures as interchangeable recommendations.

Railway Station and Creative Projects

The Estação Ferroviária de Torrinha was built in 1886 and is considered the city’s most important historic heritage site. It has been fully restored and is centrally located. At the same time, it serves as a venue for creative economy projects. These include the Orquestra Torrinhense de Viola Caipira, the Escola de Luthieria de Viola Caipira, the Escola de Moda e Vestuário, the Escola do Vidro e da Cerâmica, the Café da Estação, and the Memorial do Carnaval.

The project names alone show their different areas of focus: music and instrument-making sit alongside fashion and clothing, as well as glass and ceramics. The Memorial do Carnaval also brings the theme of Carnival into this cultural setting. At the historic station, significant heritage and contemporary creative projects come together, while Torrinha’s cultural identity extends beyond its railway history.

Traditions and Religious Culture

Torrinha preserves the traditions of Carnival and giant puppets, which date back more than 90 years. Carnival is thus both a longstanding part of the city’s culture and reflected in the name of the Memorial do Carnaval at the station. Religious tradition reveals another facet: the Missa do Cio da Terra is an expression of praise to God celebrated by the rural community. Believers from many places across the region take part.

Geology and a Spring as Distinctive Local Features

Pedra de Torrinha is a unique geological formation and is among Torrinha’s notable natural attractions. It offers a different focus from the Estação Ferroviária: geology takes center stage here, while the station represents the city’s historical and cultural heritage. Fonte de São José do Paraíso is a spring near the chapel in Torrinha’s Bairro Paraíso neighborhood. Its defining local detail is this specific connection to the chapel.

The station’s history also has a culinary thread. In 2014, a new café opened at the former location of the Café da Estação. At the time, its offerings included specially prepared dishes, snacks, sweets, and drinks.
