Sarapuí combines a strong buffalo milk tradition with the history of the Tropeiros and a long cycling route. For planning, there are different options to consider: a self-guided circular route, visits to producers under specific conditions, and cultural events throughout the year. The town is especially suited to your travel plans if you want to focus on cycling, regional products or local history.

Explore Sarapuí by Bike

The Ciclorrota do Búfalo is Sarapuí’s main route. It is about 61 kilometers long and runs mainly along unpaved roads. This self-guided loop starts and ends at the Casa do Artesão and the Centro de Informações Turísticas. Its length, surface and circular format give the ride a distinct character. Check the latest route information before setting out, as specifications and visitor arrangements may change.

Buffalo Milk, Tastings and Rural Visits

Sarapuí is located in Brazil’s largest buffalo milk-producing area and, according to the municipal profile, is one of the municipalities with one of the highest daily buffalo milk production levels. Production rankings can change. Empório Queijos e Derivados welcomes visitors by appointment for tastings and has its own restaurant. Confirm your appointment before your trip. A description from March 2026 presented Queijaria Sítio São José as an organized experience: visitors could meet buffaloes, learn more about how they are raised and sample products made there. Confirm booking details in advance. The focus differs: Empório offers tastings and a restaurant, while Queijaria focuses on meeting the buffaloes, learning about their care and trying the products made there.

Tastings are also offered at Vinhedos Divina Essência. At certain times, depending on the harvest, visitors can pick their own grapes there. If this seasonal experience is what interests you, plan around the harvest and confirm in advance whether it will be available.

Tropeiro History and Events

Sarapuí originated in the early 19th century as a resting place for the Tropeiros, known as Capela da Fazendinha. The Tropeiro tradition is kept alive through horseback processions and Tropeadas held throughout the municipality. There is also a year-round calendar of tourism and cultural events for residents and visitors. Since individual dates may change, check the event calendar for your travel dates. This means you can choose between year-round events and grape picking, which depends on the harvest.
