Marked trails for nature watching, collections on local history, and an events calendar give Ourinhos a range of different highlights. When preparing for your stay, you can consider whether to set aside more time for nature, railway history, or cultural activities. These different themes offer different ways to explore the town without prescribing a fixed daily itinerary.

Nature and Outdoor Activities

Parque Ecológico Municipal Bióloga Tânia Mara Netto e Silva preserves the last remaining stretch of the municipality’s original Atlantic Forest. The area covers approximately 122,000 m² and is home to wildlife and native plants. Marked trails are laid out for walking and nature watching. Meditation and various sports are also practiced in the same park. This allows you to combine your visit with different interests: the trails provide a setting for walks and observation, while meditation and sports are other activities practiced there. For travelers who want to make nature watching a central part of their visit, the park is the specific place to explore in Ourinhos.

Local and Railway History

Casinha da Memória is an extension of the Museu Municipal and is located in an annex. Maps, photographs, and documents are available there for viewing and research. The materials offer an introduction through images, maps, and written records. The Museu Municipal Histórico e Pedagógico offers a broader perspective on the municipality’s history: its collection includes photographs, magazines, and old documents that tell the political, geographic, demographic, and social history of Ourinhos. The museum is housed in the former freight depot of the Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana.

Museu Histórico Ferroviário has a different focus. Its collection includes furniture, work and communication tools, and photographs; two original electric locomotives of the “Lobas” model are on display outside. You can explore railway history through the collection pieces and locomotives, while the holdings of the Museu Municipal focus primarily on various aspects of the municipality’s development. The Centro de Convivência Jornalista Benedicto da Silva Eloy also provides an archive for researchers and anyone interested in the history of Ourinhos. It includes books, photography collections, old publications, maps, and audiovisual files.

Cultural Venues and Programs

Individual buildings and institutions also have their own highlights. Casa dos Ingleses – Espaço Cultural Luiz Carlos Eloy Júnior is protected as historical heritage by CONDEPHAAT. A notable feature of Catedral do Senhor Bom Jesus is its stained-glass windows depicting the apostles and biblical scenes.

Teatro Elizabetano and Centro Cultural Tom Jobim are now home to two schools run by the city administration: a ballet school and a music school. Escola de Bailado offers five courses, including classical ballet. Biblioteca Municipal de Ourinhos “Tristão de Athayde” has a program of story-reading sessions, art workshops, discussion groups, and markets. The cultural offerings thus range from historical collections to classes and a variety of program formats.

Planning Around Events

According to the tourism calendar, Complexo FAPI – Parque Olavo Ferreira de Sá hosts important municipal events. These include FAPI, Feira do Artesanato, and Moto Fest; the event schedule may change. Feira da Lua takes place on Wednesdays in Vila Kennedy Square and on Thursdays in Cohab, accompanied by artistic performances organized by the cultural administration. If you want to plan your trip around a specific event, check the current calendar before making plans. This will help you combine event dates with the other cultural and nature interests that matter to you during your stay in Ourinhos.
