Cubatão can be explored through clearly distinct themes: hydroelectric and industrial history, the vegetation of the Mata Atlântica, waterfalls, and named trails. The selection ranges from historic sites to natural attractions and routes with specified lengths. First decide whether industrial heritage, nature, or a particular route should be the focus of your trip.

Industrial history at specific sites

The industrial history is reflected in several dates and at different sites. The Fábrica de Anilinas e Produtos Químicos do Brasil was founded in 1916; remains of the factory have been preserved in Parque Anilinas. Rancho da Maioridade was built in 1922 and is also known as Casa da Marquesa de Santos. Usina Henry Borden was inaugurated in 1926 and is one of the most significant landmarks of Brazilian hydroelectric engineering. These dates represent three different points in time and functions: the founding of a factory, the construction of a rancho, and the inauguration of a hydroelectric landmark.

For the Roteiro THIP, a route provides the link to the cultural heritage: it runs around the historic ruins of the former Vila de Itutinga in Cubatão. This distinguishes the route description from the history of individual buildings.

Forest, waterfall, and shoreline

Parque Ecológico do Perequê covers 168 hectares and is surrounded by Mata Atlântica vegetation. Cachoeira Véu da Noiva, an 80-meter-high waterfall, is located in this park. The area figure indicates the scale of the site, while the height identifies the waterfall as an individual attraction.

Píer do Jardim Casqueiro extends 70 meters over the bed of the Rio Casqueiro and runs for about 240 meters over the water before rejoining the waterfront promenade. The two measurements describe different sections: the projection over the riverbed and the longer stretch over the water.

Trails and route lengths

The Caminhos do Mar route, also known as Estrada Velha de Santos, crosses the Serra do Mar and is eight kilometers long. It runs between São Bernardo do Campo and Cubatão. The Trilha da Cachoeira da Torre is 4.5 kilometers long and offers views of the Baixada Santista. The eight- and 4.5-kilometer lengths give you a concrete comparison of the routes. The descriptions also emphasize different features: Caminhos do Mar is identified by its crossing of the Serra do Mar and its endpoints, while the Trilha is distinguished by its views of the Baixada Santista.

Access conditions for Caminhos do Mar may change; check them before your visit. You should also check access to the Trilha da Cachoeira da Torre again before your trip.
