Catanduva can be explored through two distinct themes: urban history and culture on one hand, and wildlife on the other. The Municipal Museum focuses on the city's history and culture while also preserving objects from the 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution. The Missina Palmeira Zancaner Municipal Zoo offers a different focus, with more than 200 animal species from Brazil's fauna. This picture is complemented by a tourist walking route, cultural venues, courses and events. When planning, you can decide whether you want your stay to focus more on historical collections, cultural offerings or a visit to the zoo.

Urban History and Works of Art

The Catanduva Municipal Museum is located in the Castelinho and is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Catanduva. Its own collection includes objects from the 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution. This brings both the city's history and a clearly defined historical period into focus.

Another format is the Caminhos da História tourist walking route through central Catanduva. It was launched in 2022. If you plan to take it, check locally in advance whether it is currently being organized. The two ways of exploring the city are therefore distinct: the museum focuses on collection objects, while the walking route uses the city center as its setting.

Another connection to history and art is the Igreja Matriz São Domingos in Catanduva. The church houses 19 paintings by Benedito Calixto and a self-portrait of the painter. It has been part of the tourist route of the state of São Paulo since 1965 because of these works. The ensemble of Benedito Calixto's works in the church was officially protected as Catanduva's municipal historical heritage in 1997. Here, a named group of works is linked to its history of heritage protection, distinguishing this focus from the broader urban history covered by the Municipal Museum.

Cultural Venues, Courses and Events

The Padre Albino Cultural and Historical Center includes an art gallery, the Monsenhor Albino Hall, the Catanduva Hall, and a space for local authors and the press. Its current name dates to a renaming in 2021. The Estação Cultura also shapes the city's cultural life: it is one of Catanduva's most important centers for cultural production.

The Cultural Workshops offer a different focus, with 42 free courses. These include performing and visual arts, music, dance, Libras, role-playing and handicrafts. Those interested in cultural offerings will find a broad range of course topics here, alongside the cultural venues mentioned above.

Feirart is Catanduva's regional fair for handicrafts and visual arts and a tradition in the cultural calendar. Festa do Porco was inspired by the tradition of establishments in the Bairro Km7 of serving pork-based dishes. If an event is the reason for your trip, check in advance whether its date falls within your travel period.

Wildlife at the Municipal Zoo

The Missina Palmeira Zancaner Municipal Zoo covers 26,000 square meters. It is home to more than 200 animal species from Brazil's fauna. The zoo welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; admission is free. As schedules can change, check visiting hours before you travel.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

The timing details vary: the zoo's opening days and hours are provided, while you should confirm whether the Caminhos da História route is currently being organized, and the dates of Feirart and Festa do Porco depend on their respective event schedules.
