Boracéia connects the Rio Tietê with a series of local events: the ferry travels to Itapuí, the lock handles a water-level difference of 32 meters, and regional festivals range from religious celebrations to a food and handicrafts fair. The town’s distinctive features therefore offer two different points of interest: the river landscape and lock on the one hand, and festival traditions on the other.
Ferry and Lock on the Rio Tietê
The ferry service between Boracéia and Itapuí is free; the crossing takes approximately 30 minutes. The Rio Tietê forms the natural setting for the route and shapes a peaceful, distinctive landscape for experiencing nature and contemplation. If you plan to take the ferry, check departure times before your trip.
The Boracéia Lock handles a water-level difference of 32 meters caused by the hydroelectric power plant. This technical function makes the lock a subject in its own right alongside the ferry service. A tourism announcement from September 2019 also introduced a river trip from Boracéia on the Rio Tietê aboard the Barco Tapri, which was intended to offer a close-up view of the lock. The lock was described as the first in Latin America.
Religious Festivals and Regional Traditions
The Festa da Padroeira is associated with a traditional quermesse in honor of Nossa Senhora Aparecida. One edition also included a traditional cattle auction. It was held in the “Barretinho” Arena at the Centro de Eventos. The Cavalgada is also considered a traditional event in Boracéia and is known not only among residents but also throughout the surrounding region.
The Festa do Peão de Boracéia also has a long history of editions: the 33rd edition took place from May 9 to 12 at the Centro de Eventos (Barretinho) and was described as an experience for participating residents and visitors. For these festivals, the specific program and dates are key if you want to plan your trip around a particular event.
Food, Handicrafts, and Family Activities
The regional fair “Artes e Sabores da Nossa Terra” brings together food, handicrafts, and beverages. Its fourth edition provided a platform for more than 160 exhibitors. The fair was held for four consecutive years. It therefore represents a different kind of event from the religious celebrations or the Festa do Peão: here, culinary offerings and local handicrafts come together.
The “Fim de Semana na Praia” in January 2026 was aimed at all families, not just Boracéia residents. The plan was to transform the Parque Infantil at Núcleo Antônio Lorenzetti into a beach-like family setting. Two sand-filled pools, seating areas, chairs, and parasols were planned. These details refer to the event program at the time; if you are traveling for a particular festival, check its date in advance.
Choose Your Stay Based on Your Interests
The ferry offers a direct connection between Boracéia and Itapuí, while the lock and river landscape provide a different perspective on the Rio Tietê. The regional festivals, in turn, are tied to specific editions and dates. If you plan to take the ferry, check departure times in advance; if you plan to attend a festival, use its event date as the starting point for your plans.
