A trip along the Rio Tietê in Barra Bonita passes through a lock beside the hydroelectric power plant. The city also has a history of bridges and railways, collections about the municipality, and leisure options in different formats. When planning your trip, it’s worth deciding first whether to focus on the water, culture, or leisure.

Rio Tietê and the Lock

Boat trips follow the Rio Tietê and pass through the Eclusa de Barra Bonita, which is next to the Usina Hidroelétrica de Barra Bonita. The lock is 148 meters long and 12 meters wide. It helps make the Tietê-Paraná Waterway navigable. A river trip therefore offers a vivid view of a major engineering structure.

Fishing, canoeing, and boat trips with lunch on board are also available on the river. These are different activities: a boat trip focuses on the route and passage through the lock, while fishing and canoeing offer their own ways to enjoy the water. Check local conditions before taking part. Boat trip operators and menus may vary, so ask in advance about the specific offer.

Projeto Navega São Paulo offers canoeing and sailing lessons to students from public schools in Barra Bonita. The program is intended for this student group; interested students should check the current enrollment status.

Bridge and City History

Ponte Campos Salles, also known as Ponte dos Arcos, connects Barra Bonita with Igaraçu do Tietê. The bridge, made entirely of metal, was imported from Germany and inaugurated on March 5, 1915. A movable section between the central piers allowed boats to pass. Its lighting was installed in 1978 and shapes Barra Bonita’s nighttime landscape.

Museu Histórico Municipal Luiz Saffi is located in a former railway station building dating from 1929. Its collection includes photographs, newspapers, and donated items relating to the development of the municipality. The site brings together the history of the former station and records of the municipality’s development.

Memorial do Rio Tietê is located in Centro Cultural Célia Stangherlin at Avenida Pedro Ometto 467, on the tourist waterfront promenade. Its resources include display panels, models, nautical equipment, books, a video library, and photographs for research purposes. Check local access information before your trip.

Igreja Matriz de São José also adds to the city’s history: the first mass was held there in 1926, and its 20-meter-high tower was completed in 1929. Gothic lines, richly decorated altars, and stained-glass windows donated by families from Barra Bonita define the church.

Leisure Options and Sightseeing Tours

Praça do Teleférico brings together several types of leisure activity: a 750-meter-long go-kart track, an artificial lake with pedal boats, and a cable car. The cable car is 12 meters high, and its round-trip route is 700 meters. The activities differ both in type and in scale.

Minicidade da Criança covers 7,000 square meters and includes numerous playground features as well as a miniature model of the local church. At Praça do Artesanato, you’ll find regional craft kiosks selling ceramics, wooden items, and textiles. If you’re interested in exhibitions, you can also visit Pavilhão de Exposições Prefeito Luiz Fernando Ortigosa: it has three exhibition modules with floor areas of 1,600, 1,000, and 600 square meters.

The Bonde Barra Bonita tourist train offers sightseeing tours to the city’s main attractions. Check the details of its operation before your trip. Trenzinho Simpatia is located in the center of Barra Bonita. The two names therefore refer to different points of interest, without implying a fixed sightseeing route.

Decide which of these options you’d like to include in your stay, and compare specific accommodation offers based on your own requirements.
