Amparo offers several points of interest for a stay: the restored Mercado Municipal in the town center, panoramic views from Parque Municipal Chico Mendes and the combination of a reflecting telescope and digital planetarium at Polo Astronômico. In the municipality, these are complemented by historical tours at Fazendas Atalaia and Benedetti.

Market, Museum and Views in Amparo

The Mercado Municipal de Amparo is protected by Condephaat and has been restored. Its central location and restoration make it a specific point of interest for travelers interested in the preservation of buildings. The protected status and the restoration are two distinct aspects of the same place: the market is not just a name on the map, but a protected and restored building in the town center.

Parque Municipal Chico Mendes is located on Morro da Biquinha. The park covers 7,000 square meters and offers panoramic views of Amparo. The views give a visit a clear connection to the landscape; at the same time, the park can be distinguished from other attractions by its location on Morro da Biquinha and its size.

According to published opening hours, the Museu Bernardino de Campos is open Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the museum welcomes school groups by prior appointment. Check the hours before your visit, as they may change.

Telescope and Planetarium

Polo Astronômico de Amparo has a reflecting telescope with a 650-millimeter aperture. It also has a modern digital planetarium with a projection dome eight meters in diameter. These measurements refer to two different things: the telescope’s aperture and the diameter of the planetarium dome. Visitors who want to make astronomy a focus of their stay will find both a large optical instrument and a digital projection as subjects of interest here. This offers different ways to explore an interest in observing the sky and in planetariums.

Fazendas in the Municipality

Fazenda Atalaia was founded in 1870 in the municipality of Amparo, in the state of São Paulo. It preserves its original architecture and traditional building techniques, as well as the memory of 19th-century production methods. A visit therefore focuses both on the property’s architectural history and on the production methods of the time, which are distinct aspects: the architecture and techniques relate to the building, while the memory of production relates to historical daily life.

Fazenda Atalaia offers an approximately 50-minute historical tour, held Tuesday through Sunday, as well as on public holidays and bridge days. The tour includes a personalized tasting of its own cheeses. Check the dates before you travel, as the schedule may change.

In 2023, a guided 1.2-kilometer circuit along the Estrada do Café e da Cachaça was described at Fazenda Benedetti. The tour passes the Fazenda’s first distillery site and tells the story of its founder, Antônio Benedetti, known as Gran Nonno. The tour as described also includes a guided tasting of three special cachaças. Atalaia and Benedetti therefore offer different experiences: Atalaia combines architectural history with a cheese tasting, while Benedetti focuses on the distillery, its founder and cachaça. Confirm reservations and dates for the Benedetti program before your trip.

Café Spazio Benedetti serves sandwiches, homemade cakes, juices and freshly brewed coffee. The selection adds several simple food and drink options to the culinary offering; individual items may change.

This gives you a choice based on your interests rather than a set itinerary: the market, museum and park bring different themes together in Amparo, while the Fazenda tours combine architectural and production history with tastings. You can prioritize the options according to whether an urban cultural attraction, views across Amparo or a themed tour matters most to you. It is worth checking current visiting hours and dates in advance.
