Just over 100 meters separate the Mercado Municipal and Praça Sete de Setembro. In the center of Palhoça, these places offer a concrete introduction to the city; churches, squares and cultural venues each add their own character. If you consider Palhoça as a municipality, you will also find other nature and culture themes connected to specific places.

Squares, Market and Culture in the Center

Praça 7 de Setembro is in the center of Palhoça and serves as a meeting place for events held throughout the year. It can therefore serve as a point of reference if you would like to plan your stay around local public life. For a specific event, check the dates in advance.

The Mercado Municipal combines a central location with a distinctive architectural connection: its building preserves traces of Azorean architecture. It also has rooms for art and handicraft exhibitions. In this way, cultural offerings complement the building itself, although this does not mean that a particular exhibition program can be assumed for any given visit date.

The Centro Cultural Laudelino Weiss is also in the center, housed in a centuries-old building. A description from 2023 lists the Biblioteca Pública Guilherme Wiethorn, exhibition rooms, the municipality’s cultural and social archive, and rooms for cultural classes. If a particular offering is important to your plans, check what is currently taking place in advance.

Churches and Historical Connections

The Igreja Matriz of the Paróquia Senhor Bom Jesus de Nazaré is also in the center of Palhoça. On June 3, 2025, a first-class relic of Santa Elena Guerra was placed beneath its altar. If the relic is a deciding factor for your visit, confirm the details locally beforehand.

Enseada de Brito is a distinct location within the municipality: the Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Rosário was founded there in 1750 and designated a protected historic heritage site. This church should not be confused with the centrally located Igreja Matriz of the Paróquia Senhor Bom Jesus de Nazaré. Palhoça thus offers visitors interested in culture several historical connections, each tied to a specific place.

Nature and Trails in the Municipality of Palhoça

The Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro includes areas within the municipality of Palhoça. Its headquarters is in Baixada do Maciambu, a coastal plain with one of the most significant areas of Restinga vegetation on the Brazilian coast. There is a visitor center with educational trails and a qualified support team. As an educational resource, the center is intended for families, schools, universities and organized groups. It is within the municipality of Palhoça, at kilometer 238 of BR-101.

Morro do Cambirela is also in Palhoça. At 1,052 meters, it is the highest point in the municipality and the entire Grande Florianópolis region. Three summit trails ascend via the east or north side; all are considered very difficult. The elevation figures refer to different points: the accessible summit is at 916 meters, and the rock face with a flag and aircraft wreckage is at 874 meters. If you are considering a hike, check current trail conditions in advance.

Another highlight is the Guarda do Embaú World Surfing Reserve, within the municipality of Palhoça. In 2016, it was recognized as the first officially designated surfing reserve in Brazil and Latin America. This recognition connects the place to the region’s surfing history, while Cambirela and Serra do Tabuleiro are associated with mountain and landscape themes.

For planning purposes, it helps to think of the town center and the municipality as different areas of reference: the square, market and cultural venues are in the center, while other natural and historic places should be considered in relation to their respective municipality or location. This lets you focus your stay on central cultural venues, landscape or history without presenting these destinations as an unsupported route.
