Campos Novos offers cultural attractions in town and hiking trails throughout the municipality. The Casa da Cultura Cel. Gasparino Zorzi and the Paróquia São João Batista, centrally located opposite Praça Lauro Müller, represent different cultural highlights. Nature experiences are also available on three trails in the municipality, which vary in length and requirements. You can plan your trip around architectural history, festival culture, or hiking, distinguishing town attractions from the trails in the municipality.

Culture: Architectural History, Church, and Festival

The Casa da Cultura Cel. Gasparino Zorzi was built in 1919 in the eclectic style and is considered the city’s first building with French roof tiles. Eclecticism refers to a style that draws on elements from different architectural movements. The year of construction and the roof covering provide two specific points of reference for understanding the building: when it was built and a distinctive feature of its design.

The Paróquia São João Batista is centrally located in Campos Novos, opposite Praça Lauro Müller. Its interior features wooden sculptures, stained-glass windows, and paintings. The cultural highlights are therefore clearly distinct: at the Casa, the focus is on the year of construction, style, and roof tiles; at the Paróquia, on the interior design. If you are interested in architectural history or religious art, these details can help guide your choice of cultural attractions.

The Paróquia São João Batista organizes the traditional Festa de São João Batista in June. The festival includes a bonfire, bingo, a dance, and market stalls. It is traditionally celebrated on June 24. A 2024 law declared the Festa an intangible cultural heritage of the municipality of Campos Novos and provides for its inclusion in the official annual events calendar. If the festival is the reason for your trip, check the specific event dates in advance.

Hiking Trails in the Municipality

The three hiking options differ in length and requirements. At about 877 meters, the Trilha do Mirante is a short, easy loop. It offers the chance to experience naturally regenerating areas and landscapes. Check booking availability before you arrive.

The Trilha do Lajeado do Roberto is a 3,090-meter loop. A private vehicle is required to reach the trailhead, which is about 2.5 kilometers from the starting point; the hike must be taken with a guide. Highlights include the approximately 2-meter-high Lajeado waterfall and a footbridge or viewpoint located about 40 meters above the waterfall. The cascade is surrounded by natural gorges and araucaria trees.

The Circuito do Vale dos Angicos is 8,300 meters long and links sections of the Trilha das Águas, the Trilha do Lajeado Pequeno, the Trilha do Lajeado do Roberto, and internal park roads. The route must be led by the park team. It therefore differs from both the shorter Mirante loop and the guided approach to the Trilha do Lajeado do Roberto in its greater length and its requirement for a guide.

Comparing trail lengths, the Mirante is the short loop, while the Lajeado do Roberto and the Circuito are longer options. The arrangements also differ: a vehicle and guide are required for the Lajeado do Roberto, while the Circuito is led by the park team. You can choose based on trail length and the stated requirements for each route, without assuming that the conditions for one route apply to another.
