On Rua XV de Novembro, you can see historic buildings, many of which are protected heritage sites. The street is presented as an open-air museum. The free guided Blumenau Walking Tour also runs along Rua XV in the city center and covers historical and cultural aspects of the city. You can admire the buildings on a walk or learn more about urban topics on a guided tour. The tour schedule and registration details may change; check both before your visit.

Streets, Museums and Architectural Heritage

The “Um Novo Tempo” exhibition at the Museu Hering presents the heritage of Cia. Hering and its employees. It explores fashion, architecture, the textile industry and sustainability. Exhibition details may change with future curatorial updates. The facilities available there are also relevant when planning your visit: the Museu Hering has ramps, a wheelchair, a bathroom that is partially adapted for wheelchair users, an elevator and sign-language content in some audiovisual media. Check the current visitor arrangements before setting out.

The Museu da Família Colonial preserves the tangible cultural heritage of several families from Blumenau. The Museu da Cerveja focuses on a different theme: it presents the history of beer and its relationship with the city’s culture. Catedral São Paulo Apóstolo is also part of Blumenau’s architectural history. On July 17, 2008, the city protected it as architectural heritage under Decree 8.730.

Parks for Recreation and Nature

At Parque Ramiro Ruediger, paths run through wooded areas suitable for walking, running and cycling; there is also a well-marked bike path. Recreational facilities also include a 700-meter running track, a playground, a tennis court, a skate park and a beach volleyball court. The park also has a lake with a fountain, ducks and fish, as well as a platform for relaxing and leisure activities. Facilities and access may change.

Parque Natural Municipal São Francisco de Assis is in central Blumenau and is a municipal fully protected nature conservation area. Visiting conditions may vary in bad weather. Parque Horto-Botânico Edith Gaertner offers a different natural setting: it is a small forest on the banks of Ribeirão Garcia and preserves a large bamboo grove and a ginkgo tree. Blumenau therefore offers a range of nature and park experiences—from the recreational facilities at Parque Ramiro Ruediger to the botanical features described at Horto-Botânico.

Events and Local Dining

Vila Germânica is in the heart of Blumenau and hosts Oktoberfest Blumenau, Sommer Festival, Festival Brasileiro da Cerveja, Natal em Blumenau and Páscoa em Blumenau. The event lineup may change over time. If you want to plan your trip around a particular event, check its dates before making plans.

For a place to eat and drink, Biergarten do Museu offers the opportunity to enjoy beer and food. Its offerings may change. Together with the museums, Rua XV de Novembro and the various parks, this venue adds to the range of themes you can consider when looking for a place to stay in Blumenau.
