Pimenteiras can be explored through two distinct themes: the cultural heritage of the Comunidade Quilombola de Santa Cruz and tourism offerings for sport fishing on the Rio Guaporé. Festival information is also available, tied to specific editions. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between longer-term cultural themes and programs with specific historical dates.
Quilombo culture in Santa Cruz
The Comunidade Quilombola de Santa Cruz is located on the banks of the Rio Guaporé in Pimenteiras do Oeste. The publication “Revista Memórias e Histórias da Comunidade Quilombola de Pimenteiras do Oeste (RO)” documents the traditions, knowledge, and experiences of the Quilombola people of Santa Cruz. It aims to help pass this knowledge and these practices on to future generations. The documentary short film “Saberes Ancestrais: História, Cultura e Gastronomia da Comunidade Quilombola de Santa Cruz” explores the community’s history, traditions, and cuisine. The publication and film therefore emphasize different aspects: knowledge and experiences alongside history, tradition, and cuisine as themes of cultural representation.
Festivals: specific editions
The opening of the 31st Festival de Praia took place in Pimenteiras do Oeste in September 2025. On the first night of that edition, a large crowd gathered at the Orla do Rio Guaporé. Visitors came from various regions of Rondônia and from the neighboring state of Mato Grosso.
The 3rd Festival Cultural: Reconstruindo o Quilombo was a separate event, announced for September 17–21, 2025, in the Comunidade Quilombola de Santa Cruz. The announcement for that edition described the program as free, varied, and open to the entire population. The announcement at the time included a photography workshop and a handicrafts workshop using buriti palm materials; 20 places were planned for each.
At the 2026 Festival de Praia, various typical dishes made with produce from local family farms were offered. The short film, which explores cuisine as part of the history and traditions of the Santa Cruz community, is a separate reference. The two references are therefore distinct: dishes offered at a particular festival, and cuisine as the subject of a film.
Sport fishing and the Guaporé
PESCA ESPORTIVA VALE DO GUAPORÉ is listed in Pimenteiras do Oeste as a tourism offering for sport fishing; the Rio Guaporé is considered a location for this activity. The river therefore has two distinct connections: the Comunidade Quilombola de Santa Cruz is located on its banks, and it is a sport fishing destination in the tourism offering. The cultural focus is on community and heritage, while fishing is a separate, clearly identified travel theme.
Regional context: Pimenteiras do Oeste
The wider destination of Pimenteiras do Oeste offers a broader perspective beyond these individual themes. A 2017 state tourism report notes that Pimenteiras do Oeste contains 40 percent of the area of Parque Estadual de Corumbiara. Pimenteiras do Oeste is also known for freshwater beaches that form along the banks of the Guaporé. These are two distinct landscape features: a share of a state park and seasonal beaches along the river.
The 127th Festa do Divino Espírito Santo do Vale do Guaporé also began on April 1, 2024, in Pimenteiras do Oeste. Quilombo Santa Cruz in Pimenteiras do Oeste was certified as a Quilombo Remnant Community by Fundação Cultural Palmares. The festival reference concerns a specific edition in 2024; the certification identifies the community’s ongoing status. This places time-bound events and long-term cultural recognition as distinct aspects of the regional context.
