In Passo Fundo, there is plenty to explore, from historic buildings and regional collections to protected natural areas, literature and gaúcho tradition. You can plan your trip around your particular interests, whether they are history, outdoor activities, events or local products.

Historic Sites and Regional Collections

Historic buildings from the former railway station are preserved in Parque da Gare. For a broader perspective on the history and culture of Passo Fundo and the region, visit the Museu Histórico Regional. Its collection includes approximately 10,000 items spanning documentary and archival, archaeological, object-based and iconographic materials. These include, among other things, ceramic and stone objects, as well as other records of the city's and region's history.

The city's character also reflects its religious architecture. Capela de São Miguel is a historic place of worship protected as a heritage site by the Município de Passo Fundo. It is considered one of the oldest churches in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The construction year given for Capela São Miguel Arcanjo is 1835.

Literature and Brazilian Motorsport

Largo da Literatura is a literary landmark in the cityscape of Passo Fundo. It is home to the Monumento Árvore das Letras; the city's literary landscape also includes monuments featuring large letters and literary tunnels. These places give literature a visible presence in public spaces.

The Museu do Automobilismo Brasileiro has a very different collection focus. It has Brazil's only collection of racing cars and is the largest documentation center for photos, films and documents related to Brazilian motorsport. Along with the historic and regional history collections, the museum appeals to travelers with an interest in a particular subject.

Protected Areas and Parks

Reserva Maragato protects around 41 hectares of araucaria forest and also contains the largest forest fragment within the urban area of Passo Fundo. The reserve offers ecological trails. Visits are accepted by appointment via email, so plan your visit in advance.

Native animals and plants are the focus of Parque Banhado da Vergueiro. The mammals and birds found there include capybaras (ratão-do-banhado), guinea pigs (preá), thrushes (sabiá), canaries (canário), hornero birds (joão-de-barro) and grassquits (tico-tico). Plants mentioned include aroeira, canela-guaiacá, aguapé, junco and butiazeiro. The diversity of species makes the park another place to visit for anyone interested in local nature.

Parque Linear do Sétimo Céu offers a variety of options for exercise and recreation: it has a bike path, a walking area, a skate park, a sports court, a bocce court, a children's playground and an outdoor gym. The different facilities cater to a range of interests without requiring you to follow any one particular recreational program.

Gaúcho Tradition and Activities

Parque de Rodeios da Roselândia is a gathering place for gaúcho traditionalists. Lasso-throwing competitions are held there on weekends. The grounds include green spaces and camping facilities with electricity, water and sanitary facilities. The Rodeio Internacional de Passo Fundo has been held in this park every two years since 1985. If the rodeio is the reason for your trip, check the specific dates in advance.

For an activity on the racetrack, head to Kartódromo da Roselândia. Visitors can rent a go-kart, receive safety instructions and drive on the track—even without previous experience or their own kart.

Pilgrimage and Market Visit

The traditional pilgrimage to Capela de São Miguel takes place at the end of September. It begins at Igreja São Vicente de Paulo in the Boqueirão neighborhood and follows a route of about 5 kilometers to the chapel, where a large religious celebration is held. If you are traveling specifically for the pilgrimage, check the date for that year.

Feira do Produtor Rural in Parque da Gare offers vegetables, fruit, sausages, baked goods and freshly made pastéis. The market is held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. You can combine a visit to the market with a look at the historic railway station buildings in the same park.

Accommodation in the Pulador District

In the Pulador district of the municipality of Passo Fundo, Fazenda Tropeiro Camponez offers accommodation, dining and excursions. Visits are by appointment. If you would like to include this option in your travel plans, be sure to make arrangements in advance.
