Novo Machado brings together local cultural history and a landscape shaped by the Uruguay River in Boa União. The Museu Municipal Dácio Thobias Busanello, different festival traditions, and individual dated events give visitors several cultural points of interest. When planning your trip, you may therefore want to focus on local cultural history, the river landscape, or a specific event date.
Museum and Local History
The Museu Municipal Dácio Thobias Busanello preserves a material collection. It serves research, the preservation of local history, and the care of ancestral culture. The target audiences for its educational and cultural programs include, among others, domestic tourists, elementary and high school students, teachers, older adults, and socially disadvantaged people. If you would like to include local history and cultural education in your travel plans, you will find a clear thematic focus here. The collection and programs bring together an interest in historical artifacts and in history and cultural heritage.
River Landscapes and Nature
In Boa União, the Uruguay River shapes the landscape in the background. Separately, the Santa Rosa River forms part of the boundary between Novo Machado and Tuparendi. These are two distinct geographic features: the Uruguay River as a landscape feature in Boa União, and the Santa Rosa River as a partial boundary between the two municipalities.
At Balneário Corredeiras, when the Uruguay River was at a low water level on March 25, 2022, the water was considered clear and suitable for swimming. This assessment applies to the low-water conditions at that time and is not a general statement for every season or water level. If you are planning to swim, check conditions in advance.
Costana Frontier Resort is also connected with the river area: it is a tourism project in Novo Machado, on the banks of the Uruguay River, on the border with Argentina and amid native vegetation. Completion of the first phase is planned for 2029. This project therefore has a different timeline from the landscape features and events that have already taken place.
Festivals, Markets, and Event Dates
Two May traditions are associated with different locations: the traditional festival in Vila Pratos takes place on the first Sunday of the month, while the Kerb festival in Barra Funda is held on the fourth Sunday in May. The dates therefore differ both by location and by Sunday. If you would like to plan your stay around a celebration, check the specific date in advance.
One edition of Brique na Praça took place on January 8, 2026. The market offered handmade products and goods from rural producers. In case of rain, the event could be moved to the Casa do Artesão e do Produtor Rural. Brique na Praça is therefore a specific example of a market event that had an alternative venue in case of bad weather, in addition to its range of goods.
Other dated events give an idea of the variety of occasions. On March 14, 2026, Baile da Melhor Idade in Novo Machado offered an afternoon of music, dancing, and socializing. As part of IECB’s anniversary program, the traditional Feira de Cucas Finas took place in Vila Pratos on March 14, 2025. The third edition of Rua da Alegria was scheduled for October 11, 2025, in Vila Pratos, for children and teenagers up to age 15. It included a family mateada with cotton candy, hot dogs, cuca, and soft drinks. Festa Campeira was held over the weekend of March 22, 2025, at Praça Hermes Boeira in Vila Pratos.
