On the Caminhos do Rural Saudável route in Igrejinha, rivers, waterfalls and wooded slopes shape the landscape; the route passes through Atlantic rainforest and Araucaria forests. Historic buildings, riverbanks and culinary experiences offer their own travel highlights. If you’re looking for a hotel in Igrejinha, you can first consider whether nature, cultural heritage or regional cuisine will shape your stay.

Hiking Trails and Nature Experiences

Caminhos do Rural Saudável includes hiking trails, viewpoints, picnic areas, camping areas and opportunities for walks. Seasonal fruit picking is also part of the route’s offerings. Educational visits focus on medicinal plants and non-conventional foods. This brings together a range of interests: taking in the views and getting active on the trails, taking a break at a picnic area, or joining visits with a particular focus.

Another nature trail leads over Morro do Xaxim. Visitors on this ecological trail can observe native trees, including tree ferns. This makes the trail especially appealing to anyone who wants to pay attention to native plant life while hiking.

Heights, Waterfall and River Promenade

Morro Alto da Pedra is 700 metres above sea level and is used as a launch site for hang gliding and paragliding. From there, visitors can enjoy 360-degree views of the Vale do Paranhana and Serra GaĂşcha. The hill can be reached via an unpaved road in a 4Ă—4 vehicle or by hiking trails. This offers a choice of ways to get there: drive along the unpaved road or go on foot.

Cascata dos Italianos features a waterfall about 20 metres high and a circular natural pool. Visitors can walk behind the waterfall. Access is via a staircase of about 200 steps; there are no facilities on site. As conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest situation before visiting.

Orla do Rio Paranhana offers a different experience: the 2.6-kilometre river promenade has a bike path and wooden decks. It’s suitable for walking, running, cycling and outdoor activities. It offers its own setting for getting active by the river, while the hill trails and waterfalls provide other nature-focused experiences.

Architectural History and Cultural Heritage

Casa de Pedra, also known as Stone House, was built by Tristão Monteiro in 1862. It was the first masonry building in the Vale do Paranhana and has been recognised as state historical heritage since 2010. The building initially served as the foreman’s office and as a storehouse for the first German settlers to arrive in the region. Its construction and former use give the site a direct connection to the history of immigration.

Igreja Gabriel is a historic and architectural landmark in Igrejinha and represents the region’s German cultural heritage. The Lutheran community built the church in 1900; it is considered the first church built throughout the Vale do Paranhana. The building thus brings together local history and a regional perspective.

Oktoberfest is also part of Igrejinha’s cultural history. It has been held since 1988 and is recognised as cultural heritage of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The annual tradition began to honour and revive the cultural values of the German immigrants who colonised the region. Its origins and present-day cultural significance can be considered together, without assuming specific festival dates.

Regional Cuisine and Travel Planning

Produtos do Interior Ritter is a food space and shop for typical products that preserves Igrejinha’s rural way of life. Experiences there include Café Colonial and Noite Colonial; food is prepared in a wood-fired oven. The culinary offerings provide another focus alongside nature and architectural history.
