Igrejinha can be explored through several different aspects: German cultural history, rural experiences, and natural sites with varying access conditions. When choosing a vacation rental, you can first consider which of these aspects you would like to make the focus of your stay. Local offerings range from historic buildings and culinary experiences to trails, waterfalls, and a riverside promenade.
Cultural History and Events
The Oktoberfest de Igrejinha began in 1988 to honor and revive the cultural values of the German immigrants who colonized the region. It is held every year as an Oktoberfest tradition. Igreja Gabriel offers another tangible connection to the region’s history: the Lutheran community built the church in 1900, and it is considered the first church constructed throughout the Vale do Paranhana. As an architectural and historical landmark of Igrejinha, it also represents the region’s German heritage.
Visitors can admire Igreja Gabriel’s exterior architecture. During opening hours, the interior, with its restored stained-glass windows, is also accessible. Check the current opening hours in advance if you would like to see the windows. Casa de Pedra, whose name means Stone House, adds another perspective on the history of immigration. Recognized as state historical heritage since 2010, it is a landmark of Igrejinha. The building initially served as the foreman’s office and a storeroom for the first German settlers to arrive in the region.
Parque de Eventos Almiro Grings has pavilions, stages, food areas, and spaces for cultural performances.
Trails, Waterfalls, and Views
The Caminhos do Rural Saudável route passes through Atlantic Rainforest and Araucaria forests. The landscapes described include rivers, waterfalls, and forested slopes. The route has hiking trails, viewpoints, picnic areas, and camping facilities, as well as opportunities for leisurely walks. Other experiences mentioned include seasonal fruit picking and educational visits focused on medicinal plants and unconventional foods.
Another natural attraction is Cascata dos Italianos: the waterfall is about 20 meters high and flows into a round natural pool. You can walk behind the falling water. Access is via a staircase with about 200 steps; there are no facilities on site. Take these conditions into account when planning and check them before your visit.
Morro Alto da Pedra is 700 meters above sea level and is used as a launch site for hang-gliding and paragliding. From there, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Vale do Paranhana and Serra GaĂşcha. Morro Alto da Pedra is accessible via an unpaved road in a 4Ă—4 vehicle or by trails for hikers.
Orla do Rio Paranhana is a 2.6-kilometer-long riverside promenade with a bike path and wooden decks. Orla is a riverside promenade, while Caminhos do Rural Saudável passes through forest landscapes and offers a range of activities.
Rural Cuisine and Local Experiences
Produtos do Interior Ritter is a food venue and shop for traditional products that preserves Igrejinha’s rural way of life. Experiences mentioned there include Café Colonial and Noite Colonial. Bread, cucas, roscas, and other delicacies with an artisanal touch are also made there. The shop, food venue, and two named experiences give the culinary offerings a different focus from the town’s architectural and natural history.
When looking for a vacation rental, you can use these differences to help plan your stay: decide whether you would like to focus primarily on history, rural cuisine, the riverside promenade, or nature experiences.
