Floriano Peixoto can be explored through several historical and culinary themes: indigenous presence, immigration from Germany, Poland, and Italy, and culture and cuisine at local festivals. If you are looking for a vacation rental, these highlights can help shape your perspective on the town and your travel plans.

Indigenous History and Colonization

There was an indigenous presence in what is now the municipality of Floriano Peixoto long before colonization and throughout that period. Three old indigenous dwellings are located in the community of São João Usina. Despite changes over time, they have been preserved in their natural state. The dwellings provide a tangible link to the municipality’s early history; indigenous presence is also part of the context for understanding later colonization.

German and Polish Festival Traditions

The municipality was colonized mainly by German, Polish, and Italian immigrants. In 2024, the 15th Festa Alemã and the 11th Festa Polonesa honored the contributions of the German and Polish communities to the town’s social and economic development. The Integrazione artists’ group also performed at these festivals in 2024. It comprised children, young people, and adults, and presented waltzes, polkas, a German march, and the Polish national dance. The performance connected the festival themes with specific musical and dance forms and brought together different age groups.

Rural Production in a Pilot Project

In 2022, guided visits to farms and agro-industrial businesses were part of a cultural, historical, religious, and gastronomic route in the Encantos do Interior pilot project. At that time, no date had yet been set for opening the program to the public. At Sabores da Roça, visitors could prepare pierogi themselves as part of the route and make garapa at an old sugarcane mill preserved on the property. In the same project, the agro-industry business GG, run by Gerson and Joel Giaretta, welcomed visitors. The visit covered the business and the production of molasses, brown sugar, and other sugarcane products; a tasting was also offered. The stops had different focuses: at Sabores da Roça, the emphasis was on preparation and production, while at agro-industry business GG, it was on product information and tasting.

Italian Culture, Cuisine, and Wine

The 17th Festa Italiana and the 8th Encontro do Vinho in Floriano Peixoto celebrated Italian culture, traditional cuisine, and local wine production in 2026. The program at the municipal gymnasium was intended to bring together hundreds of residents and visitors. At the reception for that edition, starting at 6:30 p.m., traditional appetizers such as pork cracklings, morcela, cheese, salami, and pickles were served, along with cachaças and liqueurs from Cachaçaria Santo Izidoro. Wine production and festival cuisine thus complement the insights into rural products offered by the pilot project.
