Touros offers two distinct focal points for planning a trip: religious heritage and the coast. Igreja Matriz de Touros is dedicated to Bom Jesus dos Navegantes, whose name also features in the annual Festa. Praia do Centro adds an urban beach by the sea. You can therefore plan your stay around whether you want to focus primarily on churches and festival traditions, the Festa period, or Touros’ coastal character.

Churches and religious heritage

Igreja de São Pedro is located in the municipal seat of Touros. A municipal ordinance published on January 26, 2026, declared it part of the municipality’s material, historical, cultural and religious heritage; its architectural value is also recognized. Igreja Matriz de Touros offers a different religious focus: it is dedicated to Bom Jesus dos Navegantes, has existed for more than two centuries, and features colonial architecture. São Pedro is notable for its heritage recognition and architectural value, while Igreja Matriz stands out for its dedication, age and colonial style of construction.

Festa do Bom Jesus dos Navegantes

Festa do Bom Jesus dos Navegantes is a traditional expression of popular religious devotion and a symbol of the faith, culture and sense of belonging of the Touros community. A municipal ordinance published in 2025 states that the festival is celebrated every year between December and January. The annual highlight is the procession in honor of the patron saint through the city streets on the afternoon of January 1. This provides a concrete reference point for planning a trip: the recurring festival period runs from December to January, while the procession takes place on New Year’s afternoon. Nevertheless, check with the organizers for your travel dates, as the date and schedule may be updated.

City beach and museum

Praia do Centro is an urban beach by the sea in Touros. It gives the destination a different focus from its churches and Festa: beach and coastal attractions contrast with religious and cultural themes. When weighing your interests, you can consider whether the city beach or Touros’ religious heritage matters more to you.

Museu de Touros is located in Centro de Turismo de Touros. A local cultural publication from 2021 describes a museum visit as an opportunity for history and relaxation. This adds a museum perspective on Touros alongside its churches and Festa. If you plan to visit the museum, check the current visitor information in advance.

Choose your hotel search based on the reason for your trip

Decide whether you’re traveling over New Year’s for the Festa or would like to explore Touros’ religious heritage, museum and urban coastline as separate themes regardless of the festival. Once you’ve settled on the reason for your trip and your dates, search for hotels in Touros for your chosen period.
