Rio Das Flores offers different ways to experience culture and landscape: in the town center are Expresso das Artes and the Igreja Matriz de Santa Teresa D’Ávila; elsewhere in the municipality, other places tell stories of the coffee era and the region’s historical connections. When planning your stay, you can choose between specific places to visit, church history and scenic views of nature.

Visiting hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, and Sunday and public holidays from 10:00 to 14:00. The longest visiting hours are on weekdays and the shortest are on Sundays and public holidays; check the hours before your visit, as they may change. The Igreja Matriz de Santa Teresa D’Ávila is also listed as a place to visit in the center; check current visiting details locally.
Church History in Rio das Flores
The Igreja Matriz de Santa Teresa D’Ávila is an architectural heritage site in the municipality of Rio das Flores. The transition from chapel to present-day church illustrates the development of the religious building: the predecessor chapel dates to 1855; in 1887, it was demolished and replaced by the present church. On February 20, 1877, Alberto Santos Dumont, the “Father of Aviation,” was baptized in the church. His sister Sophia was also baptized in the municipality of Rio das Flores on the same date.
Historical Traces Across the Municipality
The Fazenda Paraíso, built in 1845, is located in the municipality of Rio das Flores. During the colonial period, it was the setting for important celebrations attended by Princess Isabel and the Count of Eu. The grounds contain historic coffee-processing machines from the coffee cycle; a palm-lined avenue is located at the entrance to the property. The fazenda thus complements the church history of the town center with a different historical focus within the municipality.
Views and Leisure
The Mirante do Cruzeiro offers partial panoramic views of the city of Rio das Flores and the surrounding rounded ridges. The view combines the cityscape with the landscape, offering a different emphasis from the architectural and event history of the Igreja Matriz and Fazenda Paraíso.
In the municipality, the leisure area at Cachoeira do Amor has a lake, barbecue areas, a bar, toilets and showers. Check current operating status before your trip. The difference from the mirante is clear: here, the focus is on a leisure area with various facilities, while there it is on panoramic views.
