Quatro Barras has several distinctive aspects: the original route of the Estrada da Graciosa, a large part of Parque Estadual da Serra da Baitaca, and various opportunities for outdoor activities. An early connection between the inland region and the coast is also part of the town’s history. If you’re looking for hotels in Quatro Barras, consider whether nature, historic routes or specific activities are especially important for your trip.

Nature and protected area

Parque Estadual da Serra da Baitaca covers 3,053.21 hectares. Of this area, 83 percent is in Quatro Barras and 17 percent in Piraquara. The park therefore extends across a municipal boundary, although the larger share is in Quatro Barras. Its conservation goals include formations of dense ombrophilous forest, wildlife, soil and inland waters. The park also promotes activities that do not alter the ecosystem.

The park’s wildlife includes the endemic frog Sapinho dourado (Brachycephalus pernis) and the migratory bird Gavião tesoura (Elanoides forticatus), which nests on the mountain. Alongside the forest, soil and waters, these specific animal species are also part of the protected area’s natural appeal. At the same time, the conservation mandate sets a framework: activities should not alter the ecosystem.

Historic routes and connections

The original route of the Estrada da Graciosa is in Quatro Barras. The road was built between 1854 and 1873 and is considered Paraná’s first road suitable for vehicular traffic. Its construction period and historic status make it a distinct highlight alongside the town’s natural attractions.

Another historic connection is the Caminho Colonial do Itupava. It was one of the first links between the former Vila de Nossa Senhora da Luz dos Pinhais and the coast of Paraná. The Estrada da Graciosa is notable for its construction period and status as a road; the Caminho Colonial is notable for its role as an early route to the coast. The two names therefore point to different historical aspects.

Outdoor activities at Morro do Anhangava

At Morro do Anhangava, you can go hang gliding, climbing, rappelling, hiking and horseback riding. There are several climbing routes of varying difficulty. The range of offerings thus includes both different activities and a variety of climbing routes at different levels.

Another specific option is the guided ATV tours offered by Quadriciclos Quatro Barras in Granja das Acácias. They follow a private ecological trail of more than three kilometers and are accompanied by experienced instructors. Advance reservations are required for these tours.

The ecotourism agency A Casa Montanha, based in Quatro Barras, offers activities in hiking, mountaineering, climbing, cycling tourism and rappelling, as well as rural and cultural tourism. The town therefore offers both a specifically described guided ATV tour and an agency with a broad range of activities.
