Paranavaí combines cultural history, events and religious practices. For planning, it helps to distinguish between annual festivals, weekly events and cultural venues: Moto Fest and Expo Paranavaí have different focuses from Feira da Lua on Fridays or Novena do Carmo on Wednesdays. A collection about the region’s early explorers also offers a perspective beyond event dates.
Cultural History and Regional Memory
Casa da Cultura Carlos Drummond de Andrade was inaugurated in 1986 as Paranavaí’s first performance venue. The Festival de Música e Poesia de Paranavaí (Femup) began in 1966; its entries include music, short stories and poetry. The years therefore mark different milestones: 1966 marks the start of the festival, while 1986 marks the inauguration of the performance venue. At Femup, literary and musical contributions come together, while Casa da Cultura provides a historic link to the city’s performing arts.
The Museu Histórico, Antropológico e Etnográfico de Paranavaí has a collection of photographs, articles and various objects relating to the region’s first explorers. As of May 23, 2026, the collection was temporarily open to visitors during renovations in a building near Praça dos Expedicionários in Jardim São Jorge; Casa da Cultura’s operations and activities were taking place at Centro da Juventude during the work. Check before visiting whether these temporary arrangements are still in effect.
Annual Events
Moto Fest is held annually in Paranavaí and brings together motorcycle enthusiasts from Brazil and abroad. The event includes shows and other activities. Expo Paranavaí is also held annually; it features music shows, rodeo and exhibitions of animals and machinery. The events have different profiles: Moto Fest centers on motorcycle enthusiasts, while Expo combines stage performances, rodeo and exhibitions. Details may change from one edition to the next. If you are planning your stay around either festival, check the dates and program in advance.
Squares and Recurring Weekly Events
Praça dos Pioneiros has sports areas and a children’s playground. Feira da Lua is held in the same square every Friday. The regular weekday can be useful when choosing your visit date; check the market day before you arrive. Santuário Nossa Senhora do Carmo welcomes visitors and worshippers from various places. Novena do Carmo is held there every Wednesday. If you are visiting specifically for the novena, confirm the exact date locally.
Getting There and Planning Your Stay
Paranavaí can be reached via the BR-376, PR-492, PR-561 and PR-218 highways. When choosing your dates, consider two different schedules: annual events with dates that vary by edition, and recurring weekly events on Wednesdays or Fridays.
