Praça José Nogueira do Amaral is located in the city center. Native trees, including araucarias, stand alongside children’s playgrounds; an acoustic shell hosts cultural performances. This brings together greenery, play and cultural infrastructure in a central square. For getting your bearings in town, the square offers an introduction to leisure activities, while Parque Municipal Poliesportivo Lago 1 has a stronger focus on physical activity.

Parque Municipal Poliesportivo Lago 1 is located on Avenida Ivan Ferreira do Amaral, at the city’s main entrance. Activities include walking, running and cycling; there is also a leisure area, beach volleyball, futsal and basketball courts, and children’s playgrounds. An annual fishing championship is held on the lake in the park. Alongside the play and green spaces of the square, Lago 1 offers further options for exercise and leisure. If you are planning a specific visit, check whether individual facilities are available.

Cultural Venues and Local History

Cine Teatro Iguassu has spacious facilities, its own parking, a gallery, a large entrance hall and 420 seats. It is equipped to host major cultural performances at the municipal, regional, state and federal levels. The number of seats gives a concrete sense of the venue’s size.

Casa da Memória focuses on local history. The former post office is a 175 m² wooden building; it was listed as a heritage site in 1989 and opened with its historical collection on September 4, 2015. The collection includes furniture and objects from the 1940s, when the building served as the official residence of the Secretary-General, Major Raul Gomes Pereira do Nascimento. Another collection explores the history of Laranjeiras do Sul, with a focus on yerba mate. Casa da Memória therefore offers insight into both local history and the significance of mate.

ARTEL, the Associação dos Artesãos de Laranjeiras do Sul, showcases handicrafts. It was founded on April 25, 1985, and is located near the municipality’s bus station. The association gives craftspeople a place to exhibit and sell their work; it also offers art classes and workshops. CTG Estância do Iguaçu complements the cultural program with Gaucho music festivals, mateadas, shows, chimarrão gatherings and activities for Semana Farroupilha. The organization was founded on April 21, 2018, and holds these activities free of charge in the municipality.

Annual Festivals

The festivals vary in both month and format. Festa da Padroeira Santana takes place every year in July, with seven nights of festivities; two more nights are dedicated to the closing parish festival, Sant’Ana Fest. The annual Laranja da Canção festival takes place in November and lasts four nights. Local and regional prizes are awarded in the Gospel, popular, Gaucho and Sertanejo music categories. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, July and November offer different opportunities; check specific event dates before making plans.
