Guaraqueçaba combines cultural history with experiences on the water and a trail through native vegetation. In the town, colonial-style buildings meet Morro do Quitumbê: its roughly 800-meter trail leads to views of the bay and Guaraqueçaba. There is also a wooded waterfront area in the town center and boat trips on Baía de Guaraqueçaba. This lets you choose how to explore the town based on your interests in history, exercise or experiences on the water.

Colonial History and Fandango

The Igreja do Nosso Senhor Bom Jesus dos Perdões was built in 1838 in the colonial style, with thick stone walls, and was the first building in the town of Guaraqueçaba. One distinctive feature of the church is a boat-shaped structure resembling an altar. At its base is a carved wooden fish, paying tribute to the region’s fishermen. The boat motif thus expresses not only the building’s history but also recognition of the region’s fishermen.

Colonial features can also be found in the streetscape: Guaraqueçaba’s streets are lined with 19th-century buildings that still display characteristics of the colonial style. The church is a building with a specific date; the other buildings make colonial architecture visible in several parts of town.

Casa do Fandango offers another cultural perspective, preserving the memory of Paraná’s Fandango tradition. Its collection includes violas, rabecas, pandeiros and wooden clogs. There are also exhibitions, events and workshops. Alongside the architecture, the focus is therefore on a cultural tradition represented at Casa do Fandango through collection pieces and a range of activities.

Trail and Views in Town

Morro do Quitumbê is within the town of Guaraqueçaba; the access point is next to the Igreja do Nosso Senhor Bom Jesus dos Perdões. The hill is about 80 meters high. A winding trail of around 800 meters leads through native vegetation to the summit, where you can look out over the bay and Guaraqueçaba. The trail combines a stretch through nature with views of the town and its waterside setting.

Waterfront and Boat Trips

Ponta do Morretes is in the town center. The wooded waterfront area on the bay has a pier, as well as opportunities for swimming and fishing. This offers a different way to experience the bay than taking a trip on the water: here, the focus is on the waterfront and activities by the water.

Boat trips on Baía de Guaraqueçaba take you to its estuary-lagoon ecosystem. Charter trips and departures are available in front of the former Mercado Municipal or at Marina Guará. If you are planning a trip, check the dates and departure times in advance. This lets you distinguish the experience on the water from the activities available along the waterfront and plan accordingly.

More Things to Do in the Municipality

Within the municipality of Guaraqueçaba, Parque Nacional do Superagui is known for boat trips and wildlife watching. On Ilha das Peças, you can cycle along the beach on a 14-kilometer round trip from Vila das Peças. The route is of moderate difficulty and should be ridden at low tide; check the conditions before setting out.

The route distances show two different scales: about 800 meters at Morro do Quitumbê and 14 kilometers round trip on Ilha das Peças. Together with the stated difficulty and the low-tide requirement for the cycling trip, this information helps you distinguish the activity options in town and across the municipality and choose what suits your stay.
