When choosing Anajás for a trip, you can consider the festival dates alongside their respective locations. Some traditions are rooted in the urban area or the municipal seat, while others take place in the wider municipality. The municipal seat of Anajás lies on the left bank of the Anajás River; the Mocoões River flows into it opposite the city.

Riverside Location and the Trip to Breves

Boats to Breves depart from Anajás’s traditional port on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. As departure days and times may change, check the schedule before planning a trip. If Breves is part of your travel plans, treat the connection as a separate planning item and confirm the departure in advance.

Festivals in October and December

The recurring Festividade de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré is celebrated in the municipality of Anajás in October. It is organized by the Paróquia Menino Deus with support from communities in the interior. It includes novenas that proceed through the streets of the city of Anajás. The Festividade do Glorioso Menino Deus is another recurring event: it is centered on the municipal seat and takes place from December 18 to 25. Daily activities include a musical morning serenade. This gives you two specific points of reference when choosing when to travel: October for Nossa Senhora de Nazaré and the period from December 18 to 25 for Menino Deus. Check the current festival dates before planning your trip around them.

Açaí and Pupunha: Two Festival Locations

The culinary festivals also differ in location and focus. The Festival do Açaí traditionally takes place in the urban area of Anajás. Products made with açaí are showcased there, including ice cream, cakes, puddings and chocolates. By contrast, the Festival da Pupunha is a recurring rural festival in the Alto Rio Anajás region within the municipality. At the event, pupunha specialties are sampled, sold and distributed. When planning, you can distinguish between the showcase of different açaí products in the urban area and the regionally located pupunha festival.

Cultural Traditions of the Municipality

Carimbó is one of the most widespread forms of folk culture in the municipality of Anajás. Typical folk groups usually perform there in June during the June festivals. This seasonal timing applies to the groups in general. The municipality also has handicraft production; some of its main products are baskets, vases and mats. Together, these subjects offer different cultural points of interest: musical traditions, handmade objects and regional foods. Their geographic reference is the municipality, not exclusively the urban center.

Archaeology also extends the focus beyond the urban area. In January 2024, four new archaeological sites were identified in the Municipality of Anajás: two in the community of Pedra and two in Laranjal. The sites are thus spread across named localities within the Municipality and have a different geographic reference from the festivals centered on the municipal seat.

Plan Your Travel Dates and Accommodation Search

When looking for a holiday rental in Anajás, you can first consider which festival dates are most important for your stay. Take their respective locations into account: not all of the traditions mentioned are centered on the municipal seat. If you are also planning a trip to Breves, check its schedule as a separate planning step. This helps you distinguish clearly between the festival period, location and onward journey.
