At Uberlândia Municipal Market, both the stone paving and the Figueira Branca tree, as well as the building complex, are protected as cultural heritage. Parks offer different highlights: lakes, Cerrado vegetation, and opportunities for physical activity bring nature into focus. For your stay, you can first decide which of these features interests you most.
Cultural History and Public Cultural Venues
Uberlândia Municipal Market is protected as municipal historical heritage under Law No. 8,130 of October 29, 2002. It is listed in the Livro do Tombo Histórico under entry VII on page 09. The protection covers the market complex, its stone paving, and the Figueira Branca tree.
The market also serves as a venue for music shows, theater performances, film screenings, visual art exhibitions, and performances. It is considered a cultural reference point for Uberlândia and the region. This place brings together the preservation of historic fabric and a variety of cultural uses.
The Uberlândia Municipal Museum is located in the Palácio dos Leões. Cypriano Del Fávero built the palace between 1916 and 1917; it was protected as municipal historical heritage in 1985. The museum's history is therefore closely tied to the history of the building that houses it.
The permanent exhibition “Nossas Raízes” has been on display since 2000 and explores the founding of the municipality of Uberlândia. Its historical scope extends from the establishment of the first sesmarias to the formation of the Arraial de São Pedro de Uberabinha around the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo. If you are interested in the municipality's early development as well as individual buildings, the exhibition offers a distinct perspective. Check the current exhibition before your visit.
Located at Praça Jacy de Assis, the Municipal Cultural Center is a multifunctional venue with a library, rehearsal room, small theater, art gallery, and a space for various events. It occupies the former Uberlândia Forum building. The building was inaugurated in 1977 according to the basic principles of Brutalist architecture and designed by Roberto Pinto Monata and José Carlos Laender de Castro. In 2018, an agreement with the Tribunal de Justiça de Minas Gerais transferred the building to the city. Unlike the Palácio dos Leões, its history centers on its former use as a forum.
Lakes, Activity, and the Cerrado
Sabiá Park has a large artificial lake and several smaller lakes. Visitors can pedal boat on the large lake and take in the landscape from a deck. This offers a choice of perspectives: activity on the water or a view of the landscape from the deck.
The park also has a wide bicycle path available from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. As operating hours may change, check locally before your trip.
Cerrado vegetation is a defining feature of Victório Siquierolli Municipal Park. Trees found there include pequi, ingá, sucupira, copaíba, araticum, and pau-ferro. The park's visitor facilities support recreation, nature observation, and environmental education. This gives the park a different focus from the waterscape of Sabiá Park.
Visitors can use the trails at Victório Siquierolli Municipal Park. Check their availability before your trip. The park is also home to Cantinho das Abelhas and a monjolo, which is part of the Casinha de Sapê.
The permanent exhibition at the Cerrado Biodiversity Museum offers another way to explore the natural world. It shares technical and scientific knowledge about the fauna and ecology of the Cerrado and raises awareness of the need to protect this ecosystem.
