Santa Rita Do Sapucaí can be explored through a variety of themes: the Rota da Fé highlights religious and historical sites, while the Rota da Natureza includes hiking trails and other outdoor activities. Coffee, markets and a route dedicated to innovation round out the picture. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether history, nature, local produce or institutional stops should be your main focus.

Cultural Heritage and Religious Tradition

The Museu Histórico Delfim Moreira is housed in the home where President Delfim Moreira lived and died. The site therefore connects the history of the house with that of the former president. The museum was protected as a cultural heritage site of the municipality of Santa Rita Do Sapucaí under Decree No. 5,457/2006, dated October 10, 2006. The specific designation and date give the visit a clear historical context.

The Cemitério Municipal is also presented as a historical walk on the Rota da Fé. Among those buried there are former President of the Republic Delfim Moreira, Luzia Rennó Moreira, known as Sinhá Moreira, and Maria Idalina de Jesus, known as Maria Bonita. The cemetery therefore has a different connection from the museum: the named figures are linked to the site through their graves.

The Santuário de Santa Rita de Cássia is the main attraction on the Rota da Fé. The sanctuary houses an image of Saint Rita that was brought from Portugal when the town was founded. The traditional Festa de Santa Rita, held in May, is a special event in the annual calendar. If you plan to travel for the festival, check the dates for the relevant year in advance.

Nature Trails and Outdoor Activities

The Rota da Natureza includes hiking trails in both the Reserva Biológica Prof. Dra. Mitzi Brandão (Rebio) and the Parque Municipal Natural Dr. Cyro de Luna Dias (Horto). When planning a hike, check access with the relevant authority: the reserve administration for Rebio and the municipal environmental agency for Horto. This allows you to consider the two named areas and their respective access requirements separately.

The nature route also includes boat trips on the Rio Sapucaí. Whether they are available depends on local operators and conditions at the time. The route also includes cycling routes connecting neighboring towns; route conditions and support from operators may vary. These activities therefore involve different planning considerations: for hiking, check access to the specific area, while boat trips and cycling depend on operators and route conditions, respectively.

Another way to enjoy the natural surroundings is to visit Morro do Cruzeiro, where you can watch the sunset. This specific experience can be considered separately from the hiking trails, boat trips and cycling routes.

Coffee and Markets

The Rota do Café takes visitors to farms that produce highly rated specialty coffees and offer sensory experiences. The details of these experiences may vary from farm to farm. Coffee enthusiasts will find a different way to experience the region here than at the historical sites on the Rota da Fé.

At the Mercado Municipal, visitors can sample pastel and take home artisanally made linguiça as a piece of local cultural heritage. Individual vendors may change. The Rota dos Sabores also includes a visit to the producers’ market on Sunday; market hours may change, so check the schedule before your visit. This helps distinguish the two market experiences: the Mercado Municipal is known for pastel and linguiça, while the Sunday route leads to the producers’ market.

The Rota da Inovação

The Rota da Inovação is designed for governments, delegations and organizations. It offers a structured, customizable experience; visits must be arranged in advance. The one-day route includes ETE FMC, described as Latin America’s first technical electronics school and founded in 1959. Other stops include Inatel, founded in 1965, and FAI, founded in 1971.

Inatel is regarded as a global reference in telecommunications and is also described as an EMBRAPII-XG-Mobile competency center and start-up hub. FAI is considered a pioneer in technology and management in southern Minas Gerais. These stops make the innovation route a distinct option for the groups specifically mentioned; unlike a self-planned excursion, advance coordination is part of the planning process here.
