In Sacramento, religious architectural history, the literary legacy of Carolina Maria de Jesus and diverse natural attractions come together. When planning your trip, it’s worth distinguishing between the places and their significance: some shape the city’s cultural history, while the natural setting also extends into the wider region.

Basilica and protected cultural heritage

The Basílica do Santíssimo Sacramento is dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio do Santíssimo Sacramento, the patron saint of Sacramento. It was the first basilica in the ecclesiastical province of Uberaba, which encompasses the entire Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba. Its dedication thus links the city to a religious significance that reaches beyond Sacramento.

Another protected building complex is Chácara Triângulo. It is also known by the names “Mansão do Amor,” “Culto do Amor Cristão,” “Recanto da Prece” and “Casa do Caminho.” The city of Sacramento protected the complex under Decree No. 58 of March 12, 2007, citing its architectural, historical and religious value. The different names are therefore useful for identifying the same place, not a list of separate attractions.

The Centro Espírita Casa do Caminho is located within Chácara Triângulo. The Culto das 9h is held there daily. In addition to the protected building complex, a recurring religious practice is also associated with this site.

Literature and collections in Sacramento

The Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus comprises diaries, novels, short stories, proverbs, poems, pictures, brief texts and autobiographical narratives written in Carolina Maria de Jesus’s own hand. The collection’s focus thus extends well beyond diaries and includes a variety of literary and visual forms. Those interested in the author’s work will find a tangible link here between her literary output and Sacramento.

Part of the Acervo is housed in the Arquivo Público Municipal “Cônego Hermógenes Cassimiro de Araújo Brunswick” in Sacramento. The collection is therefore not located entirely in one place: the holdings at the municipal public archive are explicitly only part of it.

The Museu Histórico Municipal Corália Venites Maluf offers a different perspective on the city’s history. Its extensive collection includes the first statute book of the Câmara de Sacramento, an image of the city’s patron saint, religious and secular artifacts, and personal belongings of prominent Sacramento residents. Unlike the literary Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus, this museum focuses on municipal documents, religious objects and personal memorabilia. These are two distinct collection focuses, not the same collection.

Lake, trails and Serra da Canastra

Parque Náutico de Jaguara is a tourist complex in Sacramento. Its described features include a 33 km² lake and ecological trails. The lake and trails represent two distinct natural features of the complex; this does not imply any additional activities or specific connections between the trails.

Sacramento is also one of the access points to Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra. Portaria 03 is 70 km from the urban area. This distance provides a specific point of reference for planning, but does not indicate travel time. As conditions along the route can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

The national park’s regional context

Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra spans six municipalities: Capitólio, Delfinópolis, São João Batista do Glória, São Roque de Minas, Vargem Bonita and Sacramento. The national park protects the sources of the Rio São Francisco. This describes the protected area’s wider regional context; it does not mean that the entire park lies within the city limits of Sacramento. For planning your trip, it is helpful to consider two scales: the cultural sites and collections in Sacramento, and the broader natural region of Serra da Canastra.

Sacramento thus offers several distinct points of interest: religious history at the Basilica and Chácara Triângulo, literary and municipal collections, and natural attractions around Jaguara and the national park. Which of these shapes your stay depends on whether you’re most interested in sacred architecture, literature and local history, or the landscapes of the wider region.
