Thermal waters, a natural river pool and pastries baked in wood-fired ovens give Pocinhos Do Rio Verde its distinct character. The Balneário is known for its thermal treatments, while the Bacião offers swimming and rapids. The Cascata Antônio Monteiro adds a natural attraction nearby, and the Festa do Biscoito connects the town with its own festival and food culture.

Thermal Waters and Parque Balneário

At the Balneário Reynaldo de Oliveira Pimenta, visitors can enjoy hydromassage baths and showers using sulfurous, radioactive and alkaline water. In Parque Balneário, surrounding the building, three sulfurous springs with medicinal properties are located on the banks of the Rio Verde. The park also includes a green space, a walking path and a playground. Thermal waters and the riverbank shape this area together, while the park grounds provide a setting of their own for visitors.

River Pools and a Waterfall Nearby

The Bacião is a large natural pool in the Rio Soberbo in Pocinhos Do Rio Verde. Visitors can swim there and watch the river rapids. This natural pool differs from the Balneário, with its hydromassage baths and showers. Because of possible risks, a local guide is recommended for visits to the Bacião.

Cascata Antônio Monteiro is a formation on the Rio Verde featuring rapids, a waterfall and a natural pool. It is located in the Pedra Branca district, 2 km from Pocinhos Do Rio Verde. Nearby, there are hiking trails, crossings and a viewpoint, as well as public showers, toilets, kiosks and barbecue areas. Check local conditions and the state of the facilities before your visit. This helps you consider Cascata as a destination in its own right, rather than equating it with the pools within Pocinhos Do Rio Verde.

Cultural Heritage and Festa do Biscoito

The history of the thermal waters is also part of the local cultural heritage. The landscape complex of Balneário Dr. Reynaldo de Oliveira Pimenta is protected as municipal cultural heritage. Traditional knowledge and practices relating to the therapeutic use of the thermal waters of Pocinhos Do Rio Verde are also protected as intangible cultural heritage of Caldas and are inventoried by the municipality.

The Festa do Biscoito celebrates another aspect of the culture: polvilho cookies, broas and various types of bolachas are baked in wood-fired ovens. The baked goods are sold plain or with different fillings. In 2013, the Festa do Biscoito was designated intangible cultural heritage of Caldas.

The specific festival dates are also important when planning a trip. In 2024, the Festa do Biscoito took place every weekend in July, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in the courtyard of the Balneário de Pocinhos Do Rio Verde. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for your travel year.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

Your choice depends on what you want to experience: thermal baths and park grounds at the Balneário, swimming and rapids at the Bacião, or the natural features of the nearby Cascata. The Festa do Biscoito, on the other hand, requires planning around a specific event date. These differences can help you align your travel dates and accommodation search with your interests. If you plan to visit the Cascata, you should also check local conditions and facilities in advance.
