In Pará de Minas, historic architecture, religious sites, local culture, and landscapes come together in different ways. To plan your trip, you can first decide which focus interests you most: buildings from different eras, cultural activities, places of worship, or views of the city.

Experience culture and history in historic buildings

The Museu Histórico, Documental, Fotográfico e do Som de Pará de Minas was built in the 18th century and is considered an example of Brazilian colonial architecture. At the museum, the Guardas no Museu project regularly presents the Guardas de Congo de Pará de Minas. Here, a historic building and a cultural program that puts the Guardas at its center come together.

Other buildings reveal different facets of the colonial architectural style. The Casa Maria Capanema was built between 1850 and 1860 in the Brazilian colonial style. The Casa Grande Orsini is also classified in this style, with additional Baroque details. The Museu Histórico, in turn, dates to the 18th century. The buildings combine the Brazilian colonial style with different accents: the Museu Histórico dates to the 18th century, the Casa Maria Capanema was built between 1850 and 1860, and the Casa Grande Orsini features additional Baroque details.

The Casa da Cultura is located in the former Grande Hotel of Pará de Minas. The hotel building was constructed between 1922 and 1924 and declared municipal cultural heritage in 1998. Another landmark in the city's history is the Estação Ferroviária: built in 1913, it was converted into the Pará Cine-Café in 2000. These dates mark the buildings' construction and subsequent repurposing, respectively, and tell of different chapters in the area's architectural history.

The cultural offerings also include the Escola Municipal de Artes e Ofícios Raimundo Nogueira de Faria – Sica, which offers free courses in various artistic techniques. This means the cultural scene extends beyond historic buildings to include hands-on art courses. Anyone interested in art and crafts will find another aspect of city life alongside its architectural landmarks.

Religious sites and scenic views

The Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Piedade is a religious landmark of Pará de Minas. The Gruta Nossa Senhora de Lourdes is a tourist site in the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes neighborhood and is often visited by Catholic worshippers. Both sites reflect the area's religious character, but differ in name and character: the Santuário is a landmark, while the Gruta is a frequently visited site in the neighborhood of the same name.

The Cristo Redentor stands on the Serra da Santa Cruz. The 12-meter-high monument was inaugurated in 1963, and its location offers views across a large part of the city. The Serra das Torres also affords panoramic views of Pará de Minas. These two viewpoints are ideal for travelers who want to include the cityscape in their explorations, alongside its buildings and cultural sites.

The Serra das Torres is also the setting for the Circuito da Serra das Torres, an ecotourism and sports trail. Mountain biking and eight other sports can be practiced there. The views and sporting activities offer different highlights: one focuses on the panorama, the other on outdoor pursuits.

Local produce and gastronomy

The Feira de Agricultura Familiar, also known as Feirinha, takes place on Fridays on Avenida Brasil, next to Campo do Paraense. Small local farms sell their produce directly there; the market also celebrates family farming. If the market fits into your visit plans, check the date in advance, as the weekly schedule may change.

A historical glimpse of the local food scene is offered by the fifth edition of Cultura no Parque: between July and August 2023, it included a food tour featuring bars and restaurants from Pará de Minas. Together, the market and the tour at the time show two different perspectives on food and gastronomy: direct sales of local agricultural produce and the participation of local bars and restaurants in a festival program.
