At 2,050 metres, Pico de São Domingos is a prominent landmark; several towns can be seen from there. Córrego do Bom Jesus combines this connection with nature with municipal routes and religious tradition. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether views, routes, birdlife or the festival in honour of Bom Jesus should be the focus.

Peaks and Views

Pico de São Domingos reaches 2,050 metres. From there, you can see Córrego do Bom Jesus, Cambuí, Gonçalves, Monte Verde and Campos do Jordão. The peak borders the municipalities of Gonçalves, Paraisópolis and Camanducaia. Its elevation and the places visible from it help distinguish this peak as a landscape highlight in its own right.

Pico da Raposa can be reached via the road between Córrego do Bom Jesus and Gonçalves; there are signposts along the route. The peak is a launch site for paragliding.

Municipal Routes and Their Highlights

The municipal Rota da Raposa connects Córrego do Bom Jesus with Gonçalves and passes through wooded areas, mountain landscapes and rural roads. It also takes in ecological and panoramic attractions. The Rota dos Ciclistas heads towards Vargem da Penha; its roads are considered suitable for cycling and rural tourism. The Rota dos Pesqueiros heads towards the district of São Domingos. Open fields and wetlands shape the route; local wildlife, especially birds, can be found along it, as well as attractions focused on fishing and gastronomy.

The three routes offer different highlights: wooded areas and mountain landscapes, roads suitable for cycling, or open fields and wetlands with birdlife. The Pesqueiros route also includes attractions focused on fishing and gastronomy. Descriptions of the municipal routes may be updated, so check with the municipality before planning your trip.

Religious Heritage and Festival Tradition

The first chapel in honour of Senhor Bom Jesus was built between 1865 and 1873. The history of the Santuário do Senhor Bom Jesus also includes the image of Senhor Bom Jesus: sculptor Manoel Soares de Oliveira made it in Portugal, and gilder João Teixeira painted it.

The traditional festival in honour of Bom Jesus takes place every year over ten days, from 28 July to 6 August. If the festival determines when you visit, check the dates again before planning your trip.

Baked Goods and Minas Gerais in a Broader Context

Casa do Biscoito is next to the CIT. It is associated with broas de fubá, biscuits, pão de queijo and bolachas; these baked goods are regularly served fresh from the oven.

Across Minas Gerais, 94 protected areas safeguard almost two million hectares in the three biomes of the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Caatinga. Tourism is established in 17 state nature parks.
