Buenópolis brings together municipally protected heritage, places for recreation and natural attractions. The municipality lies between the Serra do Cabral and the Serra do Espinhaço, and between two parks. These include Parque Estadual Serra do Cabral and Parque Nacional das Sempre-Vivas. This gives you several focal points for planning your trip: cultural sites in the urban area and the Sede district, recreation in the urban area, and thermal springs and natural attractions in the surrounding area.

Water and trails

Parque Municipal do Riachão is within the urban area of Buenópolis and offers recreation with natural and artificial swimming pools. Parque das Águas Quentes is located near the thermal springs in the Curimataí district. The water attractions are therefore quite distinct: Riachão is a recreational area with two types of pools, while the other park is near thermal springs.

Trails run along streams in the area around the town centre. The Trilha das Marianas is another option; it is one of the adventure routes associated with Buenópolis in Parque Estadual Serra do Cabral. Pedra Alta x Lagos dos Cristais is a nature route associated with Buenópolis. The options differ in location and type: streamside trails near the centre, an adventure route and a nature route.

Cachoeira Santa Rita is in the municipality of Santa Rita, in Parque Nacional das Sempre-Vivas, in the heart of the Serra do Espinhaço, 25 km from Buenópolis town centre. Cachoeira do Davi is in the Serra do Cabral, in Buenópolis’s Sede district. The two waterfalls have different geographical contexts: the distance from the town centre is given for Santa Rita, while Davi is in the Sede district.

Heritage between the town and the Sede district

Municipally protected heritage in Buenópolis includes Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Carmo and Engenho da Fazenda do Condado. In the Sede district are Casarão da Fazenda Riachão, which is also protected, and the archaeological sites of the Serra do Cabral, which are likewise under municipal protection. Centrally located in Buenópolis is Conjunto Arquitetônico da Rede Ferroviária – E.F.C.B., also a municipally protected heritage site. This focus is spread across the urban area and the Sede district; the sites mentioned include a church, Fazenda estates, a railway complex and archaeological sites.

Festivals in Buenópolis and Curimataí

Festa do Divino Espírito Santo in Curimataí, a district of Buenópolis, is registered as municipal intangible cultural heritage. Semana do Fazendeiro is a separate event: it takes place in Buenópolis every July. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the dates for the relevant year in advance.
