Waterfalls and nature trails on one hand, archaeological traces and art at a lookout point on the other: Jaciara offers a variety of highlights for a trip. The geological landscape features ridges and caves, offering opportunities for leisurely tourism and ecotourism. When planning, first consider whether you are more interested in the scenery and water or in archaeological and cultural themes.

Waterfalls, Trails, and Adventure

Cachoeira da Fumaça is located in the Rio Tenente Amaral area. It has a 30-meter-high drop and a large volume of water. The area also has numerous waterfalls, rapids, and hiking trails suitable for adventure sports. The MT-457 park road is in Jaciara and provides access to Cachoeira da Fumaça, Cachoeira da Mulata, and several swimming spots. The Estrada Parque Vereador José Caíçara, also called Estrada Parque Cachoeira da Fumaça, is in the Municipality of Jaciara.

Cachoeira da Mulata is formed by the CĂłrrego da Mulata, is approximately 25 meters high, and is used by local agencies for rappelling. The Complexo da Cachoeira da Mulata area has waterfalls, cascades, and natural pools. From there, a 300-meter trail leads to the Rio Tenente Amaral. The Complexo therefore offers both waterside scenery and a specific trail to the river.

Landscapes Around Jaciara

Vale do Chico is in Assentamento São Francisco, about 19 kilometers from downtown Jaciara, and is part of Complexo Rio Fortaleza. Several waterfalls, natural pools, and a confluence of waterways define the area. It is surrounded by Cerrado vegetation and fed by the waters of Córrego Fortaleza. Cânion das Índias is at Sítio Maravilhas de Deus and is part of the 260-hectare environmental protection area of Assentamento Plano Piloto. These places complement Jaciara’s waterfalls with a range of different landscapes.

Rock Art and Culture

Vale das Perdidas, located near Jaciara, is an archaeological heritage site with seven archaeological sites. Its rock paintings depict scenes from the everyday lives of prehistoric people. The rock inscriptions date to between 2,620 and 1,610 BC. Visitors interested in archaeological evidence will find a different focus here than at the waterfalls.

The Mirante dos Desejos Antônio Silveira da Silva lookout point in Jaciara was redesigned with a work of art by visual artist Arildo Viana and is visited by hundreds of people. Colored ribbons symbolizing wishes can be tied to the front and side railings. The Centro Cultural Paulo da Costa Ferreira is also part of the city’s cultural scene: it is considered a protected cultural heritage site because of its cultural significance.

Plan Activities and Your Accommodation Search

Jaciara offers swimming at waterfalls and panoramic flights over the valleys. Before your trip, check whether each activity is available during your travel dates. A day-use package at SĂtio Vida Nova in Vale do Chico, described in May 2023, included breakfast, lunch, and a trip to the waterfalls. If you are considering this option, check in advance which services are currently included.

When looking for a vacation rental in Jaciara, you can use the different highlights as a guide: nature and water, archaeological heritage, or the city’s cultural sites.
