Rialma can be explored through three specific themes: its origins on the Rio das Almas, its natural features from the river to the Cachoeira do Córrego do Café, and its traditional events. Historical accounts link Rialma with Ceres, on the opposite riverbank; nature and culture add further perspectives to this local history. Before your trip, you can consider whether you are most interested in the town’s origins, its named natural attractions or its festivals.

Rialma’s origins on the Rio das Almas

The village from which Rialma developed was established in 1940 on the right bank of the Rio das Almas. At the same time, Ceres was established on the opposite bank with the founding of the Colônia Agrícola Nacional. The Rio das Almas separates the municipalities of Rialma and Ceres. The river is also reflected in the name Rialma: Rialma is a syncopated, or shortened, form of “Rio das Almas.”

A syncope is a shortened word form; here, the connection to the Rio das Almas remains recognizable in the town’s name. Together with the founding year and Ceres’s location on the opposite bank, this provides a specific historical context. The river is therefore part of the town’s origin story, the geographical relationship between the municipalities and the history of Rialma’s name.

River and waterfall

The Rio das Almas is considered Rialma’s main tourist attraction. The Cachoeira do Córrego do Café offers another connection with nature. The waterfall is located in the upper part of the Serra do Córrego do Café, in the Assentamento Poções, and is considered an important and beautiful tourist attraction in the municipality of Rialma. Adventurers from Rialma, Ceres and Goiânia visit the Cachoeira occasionally. If you are planning a specific visit, it is advisable to check in advance whether it is currently accessible to visitors.

Traditional festivals in Rialma

A report from July 2025 describes the traditional Festa do Peão in Rialma as part of the celebrations marking the 72nd anniversary of its political emancipation; the Festa took place from July 15 to 19. A rodeo was also part of the program. A report from July 2026 describes the traditional Cavalgada as the start of the celebrations for the 73rd anniversary of Rialma’s emancipation. It also represents the traditions and sertanejo culture.

The two festivals have different focuses: a rodeo is listed as part of the Festa do Peão program, while the Cavalgada is associated with the start of the anniversary celebrations and sertanejo culture. If you want to plan a trip around an event, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

A dated cultural program

The first stop of Cine Leitura do Bem was scheduled for September 1, 2026, at Parque Ecológico Angélica Oliveira. A free literature and film program for children and young people was planned. This single event differed from the festivals described as traditional: it was scheduled for a specific date and had a clearly defined target audience. Since September 1, 2026, has now passed, this is a historical program listing, not information about a future event.

These options offer different ways to choose a travel destination: the local history of the Rio das Almas, the Cachoeira do Córrego do Café, or Rialma’s festival and cultural life. The events should not all be considered the same way: alongside traditional festivals, there was a program scheduled for a single date.
