Historic squares, a street with buildings from two centuries, local handicrafts, collections and riverside settings offer different perspectives on Linhares. When planning, you can first decide whether you are more interested in the city’s history, its craft and natural history, or water and recreation. This gives each place a clear focus, rather than presenting them as interchangeable stops alongside one another.
Historic Squares and Streets
Praça 22 de Agosto preserves the original layout of Linhares’s founding square. Rua da Conceição was the city’s first street; buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries stand along it, and it also includes Igrejinha Velha. The street brings together several specific historical connections, while the square offers a different perspective on the city’s early development through the preserved layout of its founding square.
The Antiga Casa da Câmara, built in 1849, is also part of the city’s history. The building offers a view of the Rio Doce; it also houses the regional office of SERLIHGES and the Linhares historical collection. Its construction date, river view and collection connect the historic building with the riverside setting and local history in one place. While the square and street show the architectural and spatial aspects of the city’s history, the Casa adds an institutional and collection-history dimension.
Handicrafts and Collections
Casa do Artesão is in the center of Linhares. It displays and sells items made by artists from Linhares. This adds a craft dimension to a cultural visit, alongside history and collections: the focus here is on the work of local artists.
Museu Lorenzutti adds a natural history perspective. Its collection includes more than 2,000 taxidermied animals from the Atlantic Forest and some marine species. Its size and contents make it a distinct natural history focus alongside historical and craft-related themes. When choosing what interests you, you can distinguish between exploring the historic townscape, local art or a natural history collection.
The Rio Doce and Places to Relax
Different places along the Rio Doce offer different highlights. Antiga Casa da Câmara offers a view of the river; Porto do Rio Doce is centrally located in Linhares on the riverbank and has both historical and scenic value. A building with a river view and a riverside spot whose value is rooted in its history and scenery thus offer different ways to experience the Rio Doce.
Parque Municipal da Lagoa is an urban area for recreation, meeting others and experiencing nature. It complements the historical and collection-related themes with an urban focus on leisure and nature. When planning, you can therefore choose between the riverbank, city history, and an urban area for recreation and nature.
Linha Verde includes Lagoa do Meio and Aviso. The Lagoa do Meio neighborhood also has a communal landing site for fishing. This specific feature adds the communal role of fishing to the themes of waterways and landscape, offering another perspective on Linhares.
Getting There and Planning Your Stay
Linhares is connected mainly by the BR-101 highway. If you plan to travel from Vitória by bus, check in advance whether the direct service to the centrally located bus station is currently operating. When choosing a hotel, you can base your decision on your own travel plans and preferred starting point.
