Tianguá combines a centuries-old bread tradition with a rich cultural history; the municipality is also home to natural attractions featuring waterfalls, hikes, and sandstone formations. You can tailor your stay to different interests: local cuisine, historic sites, or outdoor activities.

Cultural History at Two Points in Time

In the center of Tianguá, the Paróquia de Sant'Ana de Tianguá was inaugurated on April 15, 1915, by Bishop Dom Manoel da Silva Gomes. The Casa da Memória José Evangelista de Vasconcelos in Tianguá opened in 2000. These dates provide two distinct reference points in the area’s cultural history: a parish church from the early 20th century and the later opening of a museum.

The two dates are 85 years apart. This places ecclesiastical history and a museum institution side by side as distinct cultural reference points, without requiring a shared itinerary.

Pão tripinha: Craftsmanship and Coffee Tradition

Pão tripinha, also known as pão de cará, is handmade in Tianguá and baked in a wood-fired oven. This centuries-old craft tradition is closely tied to Tianguá’s history and has been passed down through several generations. The bread has a slightly sweet taste and is traditionally eaten with coffee.

Pão tripinha is available at markets and artisan bakeries, including Padaria Roberto Cará. This local specialty can be identified by several specific characteristics: its alternative name, handmade preparation, wood-fired baking, and traditional pairing with coffee.

Natural Attractions in the Municipality

The activities vary from one natural attraction to another. At Cachoeira de Marinema, rapids at the foot of the cliffs invite visitors to swim. A 4.5 km trail to the waterfall begins in the community of Pé de Serra do Acarape. If you want to combine exercise with a swimming spot, this destination offers both.

At Cachoeira de Janeiro, swimming is possible in both the upper and lower areas. Rustic stairs make access easier. Hiking is possible at Cachoeiras do Pinga, where swimming is also among the available activities.

Paredões de Janeiro features sandstone formations and ravines. Paragliding is offered at Sítio do Bosco in the municipality of Tianguá. The range of nature-related activities spans landscapes, movement on foot, and an activity in the air.

Conditions also vary by destination: water conditions at Cachoeira de Marinema may vary, and access to Cachoeira de Janeiro may change. Swimming at Cachoeiras do Pinga is seasonal; trail and access conditions may also change. Check the relevant conditions before visiting.
