If you’re looking for a vacation rental in José Rodrigues, you can also consider the municipality of Fortim as the wider regional setting. There, coastal paths, rock formations, and river landscapes sit alongside viewpoints and water sports. To get your bearings, it’s worth looking at the sites separately: Pontal do Maceió, Praia do Forte, Praia das Agulhas, and Canto da Barra each showcase a different side of the municipality.

Coast, beach paths, and rock formations

Pontal do Maceió in Fortim is accessible via the CE-123 and is considered an authentic fishing village. Its coastal scenery includes dozens of anchored jangadas, cliffs, dunes, and traditional beach stalls serving regional cuisine. At Praia do Forte, you can walk along the beach at low tide toward the mouth of the Rio Jaguaribe and discover natural caves. The timing of low tide matters for this beach walk.

A nature trail leads from Pontal do Maceió toward the small Praia das Agulhas. The rock formation Suspiro da Baleia is located there: erosion by water has bored through the rocks, creating the formation. Visitors can occasionally swim in natural pools at Praia das Agulhas. The caves of Fortim are other natural rock formations shaped by time and water. They are considered little explored and can be visited on trails amid largely untouched nature.

River activities and sea breezes

Boat trips along the Rio Jaguaribe are offered at Canto da Barra. The river in Fortim is also suitable for water sports, fishing, swimming, and ecological hikes. At Canto da Barra, shallow water, steady wind, and plenty of space come together; these conditions are suitable for kitesurfing, windsurfing, canoeing, and other water sports.

Near Vila de Canoé, a beach is especially popular with kitesurfers between July and December because of its strong, steady winds. There are kitesurfing schools and pousadas catering to athletes. The timing differs depending on your plans: low tide matters for the beach walk at Praia do Forte, while for kitesurfing near Vila de Canoé, the period from July to December is particularly relevant.

Viewpoints and nature in Fortim

Mirante da Barra offers views of the crystal-clear waters of the Rio Jaguaribe, its mouth where it meets the sea, Pedra do Chapéu, mangroves, and dunes. Mirante do Por do Sol is located at Praia de Pontal de Maceió and offers a viewpoint for sunsets and photography. From the elevated Mirante Natural do Pontal, panoramic views stretch across Praia de Pontal de Maceió. Farol de Fortim is also a city landmark; from there, you can look out over the coast and river mouth.

The mouth of the Rio Pirangi, which flows into the sea at Fortim, offers a different river landscape. It is considered a place for swimming in calm water and is surrounded by native vegetation; swimming conditions can vary. Inland, a trail passes through vegetation typical of the semiarid region of Ceará. Mandacaru cacti and other local species can be found along the way, and with a little luck, you may spot wildlife. In Fortim, coastal views, river landscapes, and nature trails therefore appeal to different travel interests.
