Around Colônia Paricatuba, traces of history meet river beaches whose visiting conditions change with water levels. The cultural character is especially clear in nearby Vila de Paricatuba: there you’ll find Belle Époque architecture, ruins, and community-based tourism. For beach days, however, the season and local transportation conditions are important planning considerations.

Historic traces in Vila de Paricatuba

At the center of the village stands a Belle Époque mansion surrounded by century-old trees, its walls covered in climbing plants. Vila de Paricatuba was designated intangible historical and cultural heritage of the state of Amazonas in 2015. The architecture offers a distinctive starting point if you’re interested in the area’s cultural heritage.

The Belizário Pena building is also located around Colônia Paricatuba. Built in 1898 with materials imported from Europe, it initially housed Italian immigrants who had come to Amazonas in search of work. The village is also a community-based tourism initiative in the interior of the state of Amazonas.

Ruins, walks, and visitor program

From the mansion, you can walk to other ruins in the village. Along the way, there are views of the Rio Negro and the beach, and the footpath also provides access to restaurants. This lets you combine a walk between historic sites with views of the river and coast without needing to plan an additional route.

The Caminhos de Paricatuba route starts at the ruins of Paricatuba and leads to the village’s main historic cultural sites. A visitor program for 2026 also includes a tasting of Bolo de Capim-Santo led by local residents in a traditional thatched hut, as well as a canoe trip through an igapó. Check the specific dates for this program before making plans.

Beaches and changing water levels

Praia de Paricatuba is located toward Mirante da Virgem at a former port where boats used to dock upon arriving in the village. During the high-water season, from December to June, the beach can be almost completely submerged at the peak. Tourists and residents of the region visit the beaches of Paricatuba in summer, so seasonal water levels are an important factor in planning.

Praia da Bica is next to Praia do Inglês. The dry season, from July to November, is suitable for a visit; access is more limited during high water. The private Praia do Inglês is on the access road beyond the ruins of Paricatuba and can be reached by a wooden staircase. Check access conditions before your visit.

River crossing and regional cuisine

To reach Praia do Lago, you’ll need to cross by motorboat or canoe after arriving at the riverbank. Water conditions and local transportation options may vary. Praia do Lago has bars and restaurants for tourists and visitors; check locally to see which establishments are available.

At Praia dos Restaurantes, the offerings include regional breakfast dishes, lunches with typical local fish dishes, drinks, and other beverages. Here too, it’s a good idea to check availability locally. A tasting of Bolo de Capim-Santo as part of the visitor program is separate: it is included in the Caminhos de Paricatuba route for 2026.

Getting oriented for your stay

Vila de Paricatuba is located at kilometer 21 on Rodovia Manoel Urbano (AM 070), in the municipality of Iranduba. A 2021 description gives an approximate travel time of 40 minutes from Manaus to the village by road. Traffic and road conditions can affect travel time.

For planning, it’s worth considering the historic sites, program dates, and seasonal beach conditions separately: the footpath connects the mansion and the ruins, while Praia do Lago requires a river crossing. If you’re looking for hotels, compare the specific address of an offer with your planned destinations, and take water levels and local transportation into account when visiting beaches.
