Those considering Lužani for sports or events will find several distinct reasons to visit. One shared venue is the Lužani Sports and Recreation Centre: it was designated as the meeting point, start and finish for one edition of the Vidovdan family cycling tour, and served as the venue for the Kotlićijada. Chess and five-a-side football tournaments also feature in the local sporting scene.

A family cycling tour with a specific route length

The third Vidovdan family cycling tour was announced to start in Lužani at 9 a.m. on Sunday, 29 June 2025. The Sports and Recreation Centre was to serve as the meeting point and start and finish. At a fourth edition, 80 people of all generations took part. The ride passed through numerous streets in the settlement and ended back at the Sports and Recreation Centre after eight kilometres.

The family cycling tour can be a reason to visit Lužani specifically. If you want to plan your trip around such an event, check the date of the edition you wish to attend. The eight-kilometre distance also gives a concrete idea of the length of this ride.

Culinary competitions and local events

The sixth Kotlićijada in Lužani took place in August 2026 at the Sports and Recreation Centre. Competitions included hunter’s kotlić and fish kotlić. The same two categories were also part of the 2023 edition, which attracted more than 500 visitors.

An earlier summer programme by the City of Gradiška brought traditional customs, sporting games and culinary skills to the programme in Lužani. This offers a different perspective from the Kotlićijada: alongside cooking competitions, tradition and games were also central.

Chess, five-a-side football and sports facilities

Chess is also associated with a range of events. The City of Gradiška Chess League included twelve teams from local communities in 2020, including Lužani. In March 2026, a FIDE-rated rapid chess championship was held in Lužani. The “Lužani” night five-a-side football tournament reached its third edition in 2021 and its sixth in 2024. Team competition, rapid chess and five-a-side football thus represent different sporting interests, each with its own dated events.

In 2019, the “Lužani” sports club comprised eight sections: athletics, cycling, table tennis, shooting, five-a-side football, volleyball, darts and chess. In 2019, the sports centre was listed as having football and volleyball courts, parking spaces, and paths for recreation and cycling tours. If you specifically want to use one of these facilities, check that it is currently available before your visit.

Plan a stopover and accommodation

The “Lužani istok” motorway service area is another possible stopover to consider. When it opened in June 2025, its facilities included fuel, a restaurant, sanitary facilities, parking for cars and trucks, and an area for rest and recreation. If you plan to stop there, check in advance which services are currently available.
